Biography

At Wyoming:
Junior- Nelson was a key part for the Cowgirls in freestyle events. Early in the season, Nelson had two third place finishes in the 200 and 500 freestyle against Colorado School of Mines. In conference meets, she placed fourth in the 1000 freestyle against TCU and Utah. Nelson excelled in the classroom by earning Academic All-Conference honors.
Sophomore- In her sophomore season, Nelson swam in most of the freestyle events as well as in the butterfly. Most of her top times came at the 2008 MWC Championships. She placed ninth in the 1650 freestyle, and her 1000 split in the 1650 was the fifth fastest time in UW history. Nelson also helped the Cowgirls in the 100 butterfly. She posted the fourth fastest time on the roster, and finished 16th at conference. Nelson also had a great sophomore season in the classroom. She was named Academic All-Conference, and earned her second letter award.
Freshman- Nelson made an immediate impact for the Cowgirls as a freshman. She competed in both distance freestyle events as well as the 200 butterfly at the 2007 MWC Championships. She placed 13th in the 200 butterfly and 15th in the 1650 freestyle. She swam the Cowgirls second fastest 1650 freestyle and third fastest 1000 freestyle during the season. She excelled academically and was an Academic All-Conference selection. She earned her first UW letter award.

High School: Nelson was a Colorado state finalist in the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly. She was a team captain her senior year. She is the Thunder Ridge record holder in the 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. She was a member of the TRHS honor roll, the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. She was a four-time athletic and academic letterwinner and graduated in the top ten percent of her class.

Personal: She was born on January 17, 1988 in San Diego, Calif. She is the daughter of Kurt and Judy and has two brothers, Jerred and Tyler. She is majoring in kinesiology and health promotion.
