Biography

Junior: Stinson continued her success as a Cowgirl that was highlighted by a first place finish in the 1650 free at the 2008 MWC Championships. With a finishing time of 16:52.52 Stinson set the record in the 1650 free along with other individual events and relays. UW top times that Stinson now holds are in the 200, 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyle events. Stinson also holds records in the 400 and 800 free relays and anchored both. They are sixth and fifth fastest times in MWC history respectively. Stinson and her teammates finished fourth in each relay, while she added a second place finish in the 500 free, and fourth in the 200 free and the conference championships. Stinson was named to her to her third MWC All Conference Team and Academic All Conference as well as the Scholar Athlete Award.

Sophomore: As a sophomore, Stinson continued to build on her outstanding career at Wyoming by earning First Team All-MWC honors in three events and breaking four Wyoming records. She earned all-conference accolades in the 200, 500 and 1650 freestyles. At the 2007 MWC Championships, she placed third in both the 200 and 1650 and fourth in the 500. At those same conference championships, she broke the Wyoming school record in the 200, 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle events. She was named the MWC's Swimmer of the Week twice during the 2006-07 season. The first time came after she won the 500 and 1650 freestyles as well as the 400 medley relay at the Colorado State Early Bird Invite in October. The second time came in late January when she led the Cowgirls to dual wins over Washington and UNLV by winning five events in the two meets. Following her sophomore year, she had won either the 500 or 1000 freestyle 31 of 37 times in dual meets. She had a great academic year and earned Academic All-Conference honors and was named an MWC Scholar Athlete. She was also recognized by CoSIDA and ESPN the Magazine as an Academic All-District VII honoree. She earned her second letter award.

Freshman: Stinson quickly emerged as one of the top swimmers in the Mountain West Conference during her freshman year. She set a new UW record in the 1000 freestyle and moved into second place in the 1650 freestyle and into fourth place all-time in the 500 freestyle during the season. She was named First Team All-MWC in the 1650 freestyle after placing third in the event at the 2006 MWC Championships. She also earned Second Team honors with a fourth place finish in the 500 freestyle. She placed 11th in the 200 freestyle and also swam on UW's 800 freestyle relay team, which set a new UW record. During the season she won every distance freestyle dual meet event she swam with the exception of one. Altogether she won the 500 freestyle in nine dual meets and the 1000 freestyle in eight duals. She also excelled in the classroom and was named a MWC Scholar Athlete and Academic All-MWC.

High School: Stinson was a two time Metro League Champion in the 200 freestyle. She holds ten school swimming records at Widefield High School. She was a National Honor Society member and a member of the Spanish Club and Culture Club.

Personal: Born Nov. 29, 1986 in Colorado Springs, Colo. She is one of three children to Sue and Gregg Stinson. She is majoring in earth and space science education.
