Biography

UW This Season: Young is a key returning swimmer for the Cowgirls. She currently holds three school records in her individual events. She is also a member of the 200 and 400 medley relay teams that hold school records. Young will be looking to close out her Cowgirl career with more top three finishes at the Mountain West Conference Championships, and she will be looking to break the school records she already owns.

At Wyoming: Junior: (2009-10)- Young was one of the key pieces in the Cowgirls' success a season ago as she recorded top five finishes in all the events she competed in at the MWC Championships. She was a member of the 200 and 400 medley relay teams that placed third and set new school records. She also recorded three top five finishes in her individual events. She placed second in the 200 breaststroke at the 2010 MWC Championships while breaking the school record she set just a year ago. She also placed second in the 100 breaststroke, coming very close to beating her school record set in 2009. Rounding out her individual events she broke her own personal best and school record in the 200 IM, while placing fifth at the conference championships. Sophomore: (2008-09)- Young's sophomore year was highlighted by winning the 100 breaststroke championship at the MWC Championships. Her time of 1:01.42 not only was the fastest in Wyoming history, it was also the fastest 100 breaststroke time in MWC history. Young also placed second in the 200 breaststroke, and fifth in the 200 IM. Both of those times are also the best in school history. Young helped the Cowgirls at the conference championships in relays and achieved the fastest Wyoming times ever in the 200 and 400 medley relays. Young earned First Team All-MWC honors in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, along with the 200 IM. Young also excelled in the classroom by earning MWC Academic All-Conference and the Scholar Athlete award. Her academic success was also recognized on the national level. Young was named Division I Academic All-America Honorable Mention. Freshman: (2007-08)- As a freshman, Young came in and helped the Cowgirls roster greatly and was an MWC All-Conference selection. Her season was also highlighted by competing in the 2008 USA Olympic Trials. In her individual events, and in relays, she set the two fastest times in UW history. At the 2008 MWC Championships, Young finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.21 which is now the fastest in school history. She was also a member of the 400 medley relay team that was fourth at conference, but is the fastest time at Wyoming, and fifth fastest in MWC history. Young also moved into second all time in the 200 IM with a 10th-place finish at conference. Not only did Young have a successful season in the pool, she also did in the classroom. She was named to the Academic All-Conference team, and received the Scholar Athlete Award.

High School: Young, a high school All-American in the 100 breaststroke her junior and senior season, had a very distinguished career at John H. Pitman High School. She won the Central California Conference 100 breaststroke title as a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior and set the CCC record in the event as a senior. Her junior and senior year, she set the CCC record in the 200 IM with a first-place finish. She was an all-league selection as a sophomore, junior and senior. She was the John H. Pitman MVP four times and holds their record in the 100 butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle, as well as the 200 IM and freestyle. She helped lead Pitman High to a Nor-Cal Relay Championship as a senior, the Stanislaus County Championship as a senior and the CCC Championship as a junior and senior. Academically, she was a CCC All-Academic, a Sierra Nevada Scholar Athlete and a Sac-Joaquin Section Scholar Athlete.

Personal: She was born on May 16, 1989 in Alameda, Calif. She is the daughter of Emy and Roger and has a younger sister, Stephanie. She is majoring in mechanical engineering.
