He began the year with a second-place finish in the 50 free against Denver at 21.42. He also took fourth in the 100 free with a time of 47.88. Against LSU, he placed fifth in the 100 free with a 53.19. He was a key member in the upset over No. 14 Utah in early December. Loescher recorded times of 20.94 in the 50 free and 46.63 in the 100 free. He then took sixth in the 100 free against Pac-12 member Arizona State with a time of 46.39. Freshman (2014-15): Loescher saw limited action as a freshman for the Cowboys. Against Air Force he finished seventh in the 50 freestyle with a final mark of 22.06 and was a part of the fourth place 400 freestyle relay team. He came away with a sixth-place finish in the 100 freestyle in the dual against Denver with a final time of 47.98. Competing in the dual against Colorado Mesa, Loescher was a part of the second-place 400 freestyle relay team. He was named to the All-WAC Academic Team. High School: Graduate of Columbus North High School. During his first three seasons at North, he earned All-America honors in 400 freestyle relay (2012), 50 freestyle (2014), 100 freestyle (2013,14), 200 freestyle relay (2013,14) and 400 freestyle relay (2013,14). Along with his All-America accomplishments, Sam also helped set an Indiana State record in the 200 freestyle relay.Earned All-State honors in the 100 freestyle and both freestyle relays. He also helped lead his team to a second-place team finish at the Indiana state championships during his junior season. Loescher is a staple in the record books with multiple times in the top-five at the Indiana state championships in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle. Sam was coached by Jim Sheridan, who coaches both his club and high school teams. Also excelled in the classroom as a member of National Honor Society. Personal: Son of Rolf and Donna Loescher.
