Senior (2014-15): Kalms had an exciting year to finish his career for the Cowboys and was twice named the WAC Swimmer of the Week. He helped the Pokes against Cal Poly by winning three events. Kalms took home the title in the 100 free with a time of 45.73, the 200 free at 1:39.10 and the 200 IM with a mark of 1:51.65. Kalms added two wins for the Cowboys against Denver, he won both the 100 and 200 free and was also a part of the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay that brought home the crown. Kalms was a part of the 200 free relay team that took home the title against Colorado School of Mines with a time of 1:23.88. He had an outstanding dual against UNLV, as the Cowboys earned their first win against the Rebels for the first time since 2005. He won the 100 and 200 freestyle with marks of 44.17 and 1:37.91, respectively. Kalms also led the Pokes' 400 freestyle relay team, which ultimately helped the Cowboys take the meet. He brought home two victories against Air Force, as he won the 100 free with a mark of 45.15 and the 200 free with a time of 1:39.54. At the WAC Championships, Kalms won the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 42.23. It was his second conference championship in the event as he also won the 200 freestyle. He finished second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:46.91. He yet again earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. It was his third time competing in the NCAA Championships, as he became the first Cowboy to compete in three-straight trips since Scott Usher from 2003-05. He swam the third-fastest time in the 200 IM at NCAAs with a time of 1:45.87.He finished 24th in the nation in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:34.39 and finished 34th in the 100 freestyle with a final mark of 43.38. He completed his historic career for the Cowboys as a two-time All-America honoree and owns five school records as well as being a part of four relay records.

Junior (2013-14): Kalms continued to mark his place in Cowboy history in his junior season earning his second consecutive Honorable Mention All-America honor at the NCAA Championships. He also became the third Cowboy to earn multiple All-America honors joining Scott Usher (2003-05) and Mark Miller (1987-88). At the NCAA Championship he posted a time of 1:34.63 in the finals of the 200 freestyle placing 14th in the 50-man field. Kalms also had an impressive Western Athletic Conference Championship earning a conference championship and three First Team All-WAC honors. He won the 200 freestyle with a WAC record, school record and career-best time of 1:33.74. He finished second in the 200 individual medley at the WAC Championship with a school record and career-best mark of 1:45.14. Kalms also earned a second place finish in the in the 100 freestyle with a career-best time of 43.05. He was also a part of three All-WAC relay teams. He helped guide the 800 freestyle relay team to a school record in the event with a time of 6:24.21. He also helped the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams earn Second Team All-WAC after finishing in third place. Kalms set a school record in the 50 freestyle of the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 19.96, becoming the first Cowboy to swim a sub-20 50 freestyle.

Sophomore: (2012-13): Kalms established himself as one of the premier swimmers in the country with an impressive sophomore campaign. He became the fifth Cowboy swimmer to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors after breaking his school record in the 200 freestyle at the 2013 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. He also became the 13th Cowboy in school history to earn a bid to the NCAA Championships and the second in as many seasons. Kalms broke his school record in the 200 freestyle during the NCAA Championships, finishing in 12^thplace overall with a time of 1:34.40. His finish earned him a place in the consolation final and his time broke his previous school record of 1:34.52, set at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. He achieved a school-record time in the 200 individual medley on day one of the 2013 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, Kalms finished his first career race at the championships in second-place of his heat finishing 37th overall with a time of 1:45.86. He was the first Cowboy in school history to achieve a sub-1:46.00 in the 200 IM. Kalms earned three titles at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, earning titles in the 200 individual medley (1:46.10, MPSF Record), 200 freestyle (1:34.52, MPSF Record) and 100 freestyle with a school-record time of 43.13. He finished the MPSF Championships with three First Team All-MSPF honors and three Second Team All-MSPF honors. Kalms won 13 events on the season and won four events at the Air Force Academy Dual and Duals against Air Force, Seattle and North Dakota.

Freshman: (2011-12): Kalms joined the Cowboys in the spring of 2012 and made an immediate impact winning his first individual collegiate event. At the University of Denver dual, Kalms stepped in and won the 200 freestyle in his first event with a time of 1:40.66. Also at that meet he took second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.18 and helped the 400 freestyle relay team to a second-place finish with a time of 3:05.08. At the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, Kalms helped the 800 freestyle relay team to a conference championship and MPSF and UW record time of 6:31.62. He also helped the 200 (1:20.80) and 400 (2:59.02) freestyle relay teams to second-place finishes. The 400 free team set the school-record time. Individually, Kalms swam the 200 individual medley, 100 and 200 freestyle. His best finish came in the 200 free when he finished second behind teammate Ethan Griffel with a time of 1:37.24. In the 200 free preliminaries, he took first place with an MPSF-record time of 1:36.56. In his other two events the 200 IM and 100 free he placed sixth with time of 1:50.11 and 44.97, respectively. For his efforts at the conference meet he earned First Team All-MPSF in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays as well as the 200 free. He earned second team in the 200 IM, 100 free and 200 freestyle relay. Kalms also earned his first Cowboy letter award.

High School: Kalms joined the Cowboys at mid-semester in 2012 from St. Francis Xavier's High School in Hamilton, Australia and Novocastrian Swim Team. He had an excellent career as a member of Novocastrain being named its team captain for the 2011 season. In the New South Wales State Age Short Course Championships in 2011, he took first place in the 200 freestyle. He was also a national age group finalist in the 100 freestyle during the 2011 season.

Personal: Kalms was born on March 30, 1993 in Sydney, Australia. He is the son of Peter and Sylvia Kalms and has a younger sister Gabbie. He is majoring in energy resource management and development while at UW.
