Costello brought home a victory in the 200 backstroke against Cal Poly with a mark of 1:49.91. Against Air Force, Costello's best finish came in the 200 backstroke when he took home third with a time of 1:54.04 and in the dual with Denver, he finished fourth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.59. At the WAC Championships, Costello finished third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:47.26. At the WAC Championships, Costello finished third with a time of 1:47.26 in the 200 backstroke. He was named to the ALL-WAC Academic Team. Sophomore (2013-14): Costello built off his strong freshman campaign to be one of the Cowboys most consistent swimmers in his sophomore season. He earned Second Team All-Western Athletic conference honors in the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke. He finished fourth in the 200 backstroke at the WAC Championships with a time of 1:47.49. He swam a career-best 1:47.15 in the preliminaries, a mark that is the fifth fastest time in Cowboy history. He followed that up with an eighth place finish in the 200 freestyle at 1:38.90. He swam a career-best 1:38.54 in the preliminaries, as the mark is the sixth fastest time in UW history. Costello played a big part in the Cowboys dual tie against UNLV on Feb. 1. He finished third in the 200 backstroke with a then season-best 1:50.94. Costello also finished fifth in the 500 freestyle with his then season-best 4:39.76. Freshman: (2012-13): Costello gained valuable experience for the Cowboys during his freshman campaign. Brendan appeared in four meets including an appearance in at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, as he earned a first-place finish in the consolation finals in the 200 backstroke with a personal-best time of 1:47.23. He set a personal-best time in the 200 freestyle at the AFA Duals with a time of 1:45.13. He set a personal-best in the 500 freestyle at the Houston Invite with a time of 4:36.21. High School: Costello joins the Cowboys from Magnolia West High School in Montgomery, Texas where he was an excellent backstroke swimmer. He lettered in swimming for three years at Magnolia West. Costello set eight school records during high school while also earning Junior National qualifying times. As a team captain he earned All-State honors his senior season. He also excelled in the classroom earning Academic All-State. Personal: Costello was born on Dec. 3, 1993 in Frederick, Md. He is the son of Joseph and Jakie Costello and has three older siblings. Costello is majoring in criminal justice. He was also recruited by Pittsburgh and Fordham.
