Academic Intern – University of Wyoming Athletics
Position Summary:
The Academic Intern will support the University of Wyoming academic support unit in its daily operations. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and interested in a career in athletic academic services. The intern will assist with academic tracking, weekly class checks, study hall management, and eventually mentor and advise a small caseload of student-athletes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Conduct weekly class checks and report attendance
· Monitor and manage study hall sessions, including QR code tracking and student accountability
· Assist with weekly grade reports, academic tracking, and hold checks
· Track alcohol education completion and other academic compliance tasks
· Support academic coordinators in preparing reports, organizing documentation, and maintaining files
· Build rapport with student-athletes and support a range of academic needs
· Review and organize weekly academic schedules and assignment list
· Maintain confidentiality and discretion
· Create and maintain spreadsheets in Excel
· After the initial semester, mentor and advise a caseload of student-athletes with guidance from Coordinators
· Serve as a reliable, professional presence in the academic center
Required Qualifications:
· Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at the University of Wyoming
· Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2
· Strong written communication skills with knowledge of APA and MLA formatting
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel and able to learn quickly
· Interest in a career in athletics or academic support
· Able to work in-person during assigned hours
· Able to maintain confidentiality and follow FERPA guidelines
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
· Professional communication skills
· Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career within college athletics.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Graduate student
· Previous experience working with student-athletes, including those with learning disabilities
· Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds
· An understanding of how college athletics works
· Familiarity with University of Wyoming classes and campus structure
· Ability to manage responsibilities independently and support a small caseload over time
· Interest in continuing in the role for more than one semester
· Genuine interest in a future career supporting student-athlete academics in the college athletics environment
