Biography

2007-08... Jake returns after an All-American indoor season, he finished the season at the NCAA Championships in the 35lb weight throw in 11th place. He currently owns the second best weight throw in Wyoming and Mountain West Conference history and returns as the sixth best in both UW and MWC history in the hammer throw. With his toss of 71' 1 1/4" in the 35-pound weight throw, Shanklin became the first back-to-back conference champion since assistant coach and Wyoming great Quincy Howe did it in 2002 and 2003 in the triple jump. During the outdoor season Jake red-shirted in order to have a full senior campaign in 2009.

2006-07... Jake is coming off a 12th place finish in the 35lb weight throw at the NCAA Championships. He is the fifth ranked returner in the weight throw and 11th ranked hammer thrower in the nation this upcoming season. Jake was the Conference Champ in the weight throw and runner-up in hammer last season. He ended up ranked fifth and sixth All-Time on the UW top ten list for the weight and hammer throws. Jake is also ranked fourth and sixth All-Time in the conference history in the weight throw and hammer throws.

Personal... Jake was born Oct. 24th, 1985, he is the son of Melissa and Robert Shanklin.
