Biography

UW This Season: Hala'api'api finished the spring season as the No. 1 right defensive end and hopes to continue to solidify the position.

2014: Hala'api'api appeared in all 12 games with five starts. He finished the season with 20 tackles including 13 solo stops. He recorded 5.5 tackles for loss for 50 yards. He recorded three sacks on the season for 34 yards. He recorded four tackles and two tackles for loss for 11 yards against Utah State. He also recorded one sack against the Aggies. Against Boise State he recorded three tackles including a sack for a 23-yard loss.

2013: Hala'api'api finished the season with 11 tackles from the "buck" end position. He had a good game versus Nebraska with two tackles and a forced fumble. He added a pass breakup and a tackle for loss.

2012: Hala'api'api became an immediate contributor as a freshman. He was fifth on the team in tackles with 57 over 12 games. His hard-hitting style led the Cowboys with three forced fumbles, and he added two pass breakups and one fumble recovery. One of his best games of the season came at Idaho, in which he tallied eight tackles, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. He earned his first letter for the Cowboys.

High School: Hala'api'api earned Honorable Mention All-State honors from the Honolulu Star-Advertiser his senior season. He was also named the Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) White Conference Defensive Player of the Year his senior season, and was named a First Team OIA linebacker and utility player and a Second Team OIA running back. As a middle linebacker, he tallied 89 tackles, 14 sacks and intercepted five passes in 2011. He also rushed for 229 yards on 46 carries and scored five rushing touchdowns, while catching seven passes for 105 yards. Elected a team captain, he led Kaimuki High to an 8-2 record and the the semifinals of the playoffs. His junior season, Hala'api'api was an Honorable Mention All-State selection, and earned Second Team OIA honors at linebacker, as he was credited with 76 tackles, 15 sacks and intercepted two passes. He rushed for 152 yards on 33 carries and scored four rushing TDs. Hala'api'api also caught five passes for 53 yards. As a team captain his junior season, he was part of a team that finished the season as the Division II state runner-up with a 12-2 record. Hala'api'api was a three-sport athlete at Kaimuki High, lettering each year of high school in football, basketball and track and field. He played for head football coach Clint Onigama.

Personal: Born Nov. 25, 1994, he is the son of Fele and Siaosi Hala'api'api. He has three brothers and one sister. Other schools that recruited him included Colorado, Oregon State, San Diego State and Washington State. He is pursuing a degree in social science at UW.
