Gordon went 3-4 overall during both the Cowboy and UNC Open before claiming the title at the Northwest Open. He went 3-0 with two majors to secure the top honor. He also went 3-2 at the Bob Hope Open before competing against Jack Kuck of Northern Colorado for the lone dual action for Gordon. Gordon was a New Mexico state champion at heavyweight as a junior, pinning all four opponents on his way to the title and a record of 46-3. He finished fourth at the state championship his junior season. His pin in the finals pushed Belen to a second-place finish in the team race. Gordon is a fourt-time high school state placer.
