2017-18: Posted a 36-6 overall record as a junior, competing at 165 pounds … Recorded four falls, 11 tech falls and six major decisions on the year … Second-time NCAA qualifier, going 2-2 at the national tournament after qualifying as the No. 14 seed … Finished third at the Big 12 Championships, going 3-1 at the tournament including defeating Northern Colorado’s Keilan Torres by way of 18-0 technical fall in the third place match … Defeated nine ranked opponents, including a 5-2 win over No. 6 Chandler Rogers of Oklahoma State in the dual against the Cowboys … Took first at the Cowboy Open, defeating No. 19 Keilan Torres of Northern Colorado, 6-1, in the finals … Recorded three tech falls and a pin at the UNK Holiday Inn Open to take top honors at 165 … Won the Reno Tournament of Champions, recording wins over No. 28 Quentin Perez of Campbell and No. 24 Connor Flynn of Missouri … Went 4-2 at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
2016-17: Ashworth had quite the breakout sophomore campaign during the 2016-17 season. He finished in fifth-place at the Big 12 Championships and was one of five Pokes to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Ashworth started the year with a second-place mark at the Cowboy Open. He then won the UNC Open before joining teammates Bryce Meredith, Cole Mendenhall and Archie Colgan by placing at the Cliff Keen Invite. He finished third at the Invite which included upset victories over #13 Keaton Subjeck of Stanford, #9 Anthony Valencia of Arizona State and #16 Austin Matthews of Edinboro. He then took second place at the Reno Tournament of Champions and won 15 of his next 18 matches. Ashworth set the tone early in the dual against #17 Oklahoma. He earned a 5-2 decision over #8 Chandler Rogers. He went 2-2 at the Big 12 Championships before a 1-2 outing at Nationals. His redshirt sophomore season came to a close with a 36-9 overall record. He was 13-2 in duals with an 8-4 record against tough competition in the Big 12.
2015-16: Ashworth had another strong year during his redshirt freshman season. He opened the season with a first-place finish at the Northern Colorado Open. He then took second at the UNK Holiday Inn Open, before he brought home another title at the Utah Valley Open. His lone appearance in UW’s lineup came at Boise State. He fell to #13 Geordan Martinez by decision to close out his redshirt freshman season. Ashworth had two pins on the season and ended with a 16-4 record.
2014-15: Redshirted for the Brown and Gold.
High School: Ashworth was a standout on the mat for Spanish Fork High School, capping off his senior year with his third Utah state title in as many years. In his last season, he was a Reno Tournament of Champions All-America honoree, and a Senior Nationals All-America winner. As a junior, he was a state and regional champ and AA honoree in Fargo. He was eighth in the nation in Greco-Roman as a sophomore. He was the state runner-up as a freshman and placed eighth at freshman nationals. He was an honor roll student and an Academic All-Region honoree.
Personal: Ashworth was born in Spanish Fork, Utah, and he is the son of Jed and Cherie Ashworth. He has one sibling, Kaleb. His uncle, Chad Richard, played football at Southern Utah University. He has not declared a major at UW. He received recruiting interest from Minnesota, Utah Valley, Northern Colorado, Bucknell and Grand Canyon.
