LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 7, 2018) –
The Wyoming wrestling team will wrap up its home schedule with duals this weekend against nationally-ranked Utah Valley before welcoming Northern Colorado. The Pokes will host the Wolverines in the UniWyo Sports Complex on Friday evening at 7 p.m. MT, and will match up with UNC on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium.

Senior Night & Alumni Recognition
Six seniors will be honored as members of the Wyoming wrestling program prior to Saturday's dual with Northern Colorado. Those seniors include: Archie Colgan

and Ronnie Stevens
. Additionally, during intermission on Saturday, a number of former Pokes will be recognized on the mat.
Last Time Out
On Super Bowl Sunday, the Cowboys easily handled the Oklahoma Sooners in the UniWyo Sports Complex. The Pokes won 26-9 for what was their third-straight dual win. UW also tallied seven wins against OU. The win was the first for Wyoming against Oklahoma since the 2014-15 season. It is also the fourth win for head coach Mark Branch
against the Sooners in his ten seasons in Laramie.
Wyoming in the Rankings
The Pokes made the biggest jump in this week's USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll, jumping five spots to No. 17, which is UW's highest team ranking in the coaches poll since the 2014-15 season. UW is one of five Big 12 teams in the rankings, with Utah Valley sitting No. 25. UW is tenth in the Trackwrestling team rankings, and 11th in the Flowrestling team rankings.
Meredith holds the top spot at 141 pounds to lead the Brown and Gold into the weekend. Montorie Bridges
continues to shine with his highest rankings coming at third in the Trackwrestling individual rankings at 133 pounds. Colgan held steady being the tenth-ranked wrestler at 157 pounds in the Flowrestling, Trackwrestling and InterMat individual rankings. Branson Ashworth
sits at No. 13 at 165 pounds in all polls, while Sam Turner
is No. 23 according to Trackwrestling.
NCAA Coaches' Panel Rankings & RPI
A number of Cowboys found themselves in the latest NCAA Division I Wrestling coaches' rankings and RPI that was released this week. Five UW wrestlers, led by Meredith at No. 1 at 141 pounds, were in the rankings. Bridges sits sixth, while Colgan is tenth in their respective weights. Ashworth (165 pounds) holds the 13th spot, as Turner (149 pounds) is 27th. Six Pokes are currently ranked in the RPI with Meredith sitting sixth, Bridges in eighth for the 125 pound class and Ashworth tenth for 165-pounders. At 157, Colgan holds steady at 16th, while Chaz Polson
is 30th at 184 pounds and Pope ranked 32nd at 174 pounds.
Know the Competition – Utah Valley & Northern Colorado
For the first time in its program history, the Utah Valley wrestling team entered the USA Today/NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll as it debuts at No. 25 this week. It is most recently coming off a 19-18 win over Oklahoma last week. Taylor Lamont leads UVU with the No. 6 spot in the Trackwrestling rankings at 125 pounds. Demetrious Romero (165 pounds) and Kimball Bastian (174 pounds) are ranked No. 16 and No. 17, respectively in InterMat's rankings, while Dustin Dennison holds the 26th spot in the NCAA Coaches' Panel rankings.
Northern Colorado dropped its fourth-consecutive dual on Saturday night. The Bears fell to West Virginia, 24-16. Rico Montoya (125 pounds), Keilan Torres (165 pounds) and Dylan Gabel (184 pounds) are each ranked at their respective weights and were also UNC's three wrestlers to qualify for Nationals a year ago. Torres is currently No. 17, with Gabel ranked 18th and Montoya holding the 24th spot in the Trackwrestling rankings.
Series against Utah Valley
The Pokes are 12-1 all-time against Utah Valley in a series that dates back to 2005. The Cowboys have won nine-straight duals against the Wolverines with Branch sporting an impressive 9-0 record against UVU. A year ago, UW, which won by criteria, won four of the last six bouts to claim a 17-16 come-from-behind victory over Utah Valley.
Series against Northern Colorado
The Cowboys lead the all-time series against the Bears 51-29-1 in a series that dates back to 1932. The Cowboys have won 23-straight duals against the Bears and are 9-0 all-time under Branch. Last season, the Pokes won seven of ten bouts to roll to a 28-10 win in Greeley.
The Brown and Gold will close out the regular season on Feb. 16 at Air Force. The dual will begin at 7 p.m. MT.
