Biography

2015-16 (Sophomore): Klara Castillo participated in all but two tournaments this season for UW • She played 24 rounds with a scoring average of 78.2, which was third-best for the Cowgirls • Opened the Bobcat Spring Invite with a career-low 70 (-2) • Had her first top-five finish at the Bobcat Spring Invite, as she tied for fifth with a 222 (+6) • Had three top-30 finishes during her sophomore campaign • Closed out the season at the MW Championship, where she finished second on the team and tied for 38th with a three-day total 241 (+25) • Named to the 2016 Spring Academic All-MW team. 

2014-15 (Freshman): Castillo played in four tournaments in her first season with the Cowgirls • Played a total of 12 rounds and finished her freshman season with a scoring average of 83.3 • Best finish and lowest total tournament score came at the Denver Ron Moore Intercollegiate with a score of 234 (+18), as she tied for 39th • Fired a career low of 75 (+3) in the final round at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.

High School: Klara Castillo joined the Cowgirls after an excellent prep career under high school coach Allan Brumer and golf instructor Notah Begay II at Sandia Prep • Awarded the FCWT Faces of the Future award, while also being named the Sun Country PGA Junior Player of the Year • An Optimist International Tournament Qualifier and a Junior World Qualifier, as well as a Sun Country Girls Junior America's Cup participant • Shot a 71 to finish second and hit a 77 for a third place finish at the Junior America's Cup • Owns her high school's lowest tournament record score of 73 and finished third at the 2013 state tournament with scores of 75 and 81 during the two-day tournament • According to Golfweek, Klara was ranked 83rd in the 2014 girls class with a scoring average of 77.4 • Castillo held a 3.6 grade-point average and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Personal: Castillo is the daughter of Jan Wallner and Diane Castillo and was adopted at 9-months old • She is a cousin of professional golfer Notah Begay III and was born on December 11, 1995.
