TRACK AND FIELD:

2014-15: Indoors competed in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters during the season...placed 10th in the 5,000 meters at the MW Championships...outdoors competed in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters..won the 5,000 meters at the Cowpoke Open on May 1...finished seventh in the 10,000 meters at the conference meet...named a MW Scholar Athlete and a MW Scholar Athlete in the classroom. 

2013-14: Ran three all-time top 10 times during the season...indoors posted the fourth-fastest 3,000 meters in school history at 8:14.38...also notched the No. 7 mark in the 5,000 meters at 14:29.13...at the MW Championships finished sixth in the 3,000 meters and seventh in the 5,000 meters...outdoors ran the 10th-fastest 10,000 meters in UW history in 29:48.67...finished sixth in the event at the MW Championships...also placed seventh in the 5,000 meters at the conference meet...named MW Academic All-Conference and a MW Scholar Athlete in the classroom. 

2012-13: During the indoor season, earned a career-best 8:34 in the 3,000 meters for second place at the Air Force Invite...achieved a career-best 14:52 in the 5,000 meters...competed at the MW Championships in both the 3,000 meters (15th, 8:37) and the 5,000 meters (12th, 15:00)...came in fifth in the 3,000 meters in 8:39 at the Holiday Inn Invite...redshirted the outdoor season ... named a MW Scholar-Athlete. 

2011-12: Derner had a great freshman outdoor season by placing fifth in the 10,000 meters run at the MW Championships and also competed at San Francisco State where he placed 14th in the 5,000 meters...finished fourth in the 1,500 meters at the Snowball Meet...placed second in the 5,000 meters at the Fum McGraw Invite.

CROSS COUNTRY:

2015-16: Finished as Wyoming's first or second runner in all five meets during the season, including three races as the top Cowboy...top showing was a fourth-place overall finish in 26:37 at the Mountain West Championships to earn All-MW First Team...also ran the 10th-fastest eight kilometers in program history with a 24:24 at the Louisville Pre-Nationals...posted the 12th-fastest 10 kilometers with a 30:29 at the NCAA Mountain Regional...placed 20th at the meet to earn All-Region accolades...in the classroom was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual...named MW Academic All-Conference in the classroom.

2014-15: Placed in Wyoming's top three in five of six meets during the season, despite being slowed by an illness...top showing was second overall at the season-opening Aggie Invite in 20:45 to finish as the top Cowboy...earned Mountain West Athlete of the Week for his efforts...also placed sixth at the Montana State Invite in 25:13...was UW's third runner at the Washington Invite, MW Championships and NCAA Mountain Regional...named MW Academic All-Conference and a MW Scholar Athlete in the classroom.

2013-14: One of Wyoming's most consistent runners, finishing in the top four in all six meets....was in UW's top three in five contests...top performance was a 30:13 at the NCAA Mountain Regional to finish 30th overall and as UW's second runner...his time was the fifth-fastest 10 kilometers by a Cowboy since 1990...ran a 17:53 for fifth at the Highlander Invite and the fifth-fastest 6 kilometers by a Cowboy since 1990...also claimed a top-10 finish at the Utah Valley Invite in 18:31 for fourth...named MW Academic All-Conference and a MW Scholar Athlete in the classroom.

2012-13: Placed in Wyoming's top two finishers in all six meets during the season...finished in third place at the Rust Buster in 19:00 ... placed fourth at the Montana St. Invitational in 24:59 ... earned a 16th-place mark at the Rocky Mountain Shootout in 25:54 ... achieved fourth place at the Highlander Invitational in 17:52 ... achieved 26th place at the Mountain West Championship in 25:13 ... competed in the NCAA Mountain Regional for 49th place in 31:38 ... named MW Academic All-Conference and a MW Scholar-Athlete.

2011-12: Redshirted ... did not compete during the cross country season.


Before Wyoming: Derner lettered four years in track and three in cross country while attending Waterford Union ... in cross country, he was named Racine County Runner of the Year twice and Southern Lakes Conference Runner of the Year three times ... holds several school records in both track and cross country and was team captain of both squads ... a National Honor Society member and senior class president.

Personal: Born June 14 in Burlington, Wis., to Tim and Mary Derner ... has one brother, Ethan ... majoring in international studies and history ... also considered Minnesota and Bradley.
