CHARLESTON, S.C. (Feb. 24, 2019) – The Wyoming women's golf team completed the first round of play at the Kiawah Island Classic on Sunday at the par-72, 5,964-yard Osprey Point Golf Club.

The Cowgirls head into the second day of action in a tie with Jacksonville for 22
nd following a first-round 305 as a team to sit at 17-over as a team. Coastal Carolina holds the clubhouse lead as the only team under par at 2-under as a team.

The Kiawah Island Classic is heralded as the largest event in collegiate golf, with 49 teams competing, including 254 players in the field.

"This is a unique event and a great opportunity to challenge us in so many ways," head coach
Josey Stender said. "We battled through up and down conditions today so I was pleased with our course management and perseverance.

"We will compete at a different course tomorrow and will face a different set of challenges so we will be focusing on consistency."

Wyoming was led by junior
Erin Sargent in the first round, as Sargent finished with three birdies over her final four holes to card a 1-over 73. She is currently tied for 36
th individually, and is five shots back from leader Reagan Jahn of Lehigh heading into Monday's second round.

Cowgirls
Samantha Hui and
Sarah Hankins are tied for 91
st following first-round 76's to sit at 4-over for the tournament. Both Hankins and Hui were consistent through most of their rounds, but just hit a couple of speed bumps with a pair of double bogeys each over the course of the day to inflate their scores. Both will look to put themselves in position to make a charge up the leaderboard heading into Monday.

Megan Knadler and
Caitlyn Skavdahl recorded 80's over their first 18 holes of the event. They sit at 8-over in a tie for 163
rd after one round.

Paired with Jacksonville, the Cowgirls will tee it up for the second round on Monday morning at 6:30 a.m. MT. Wyoming will play at the par-72, 5,941-yard Oak Point Golf Club, and will look to finish the day in the top-24 to advance to Tuesday's championship round.
