LARAMIE, Wyoming (11/20/25) – The University of Wyoming wrestling team opens Big XII competition this weekend. The Pokes travel to Cal Baptist for a 7 p.m. dual inside the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center. The competition will be streamed on Flo Wrestling.
The Cowboys are 1-2 on the season. They're fresh off participating in the National Duals Invitational in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
It was a mixed bag of results in losses to No. 4 Ohio State and No. 10 Virginia Tech.
Riley Davis (174) logged his first-career ranked win and burst into the rankings for the first time at No. 29. Some of his teammates didn't perform up to expectations, and head coach
Mark Branch hopes to see more fight against the Lancers.
"This dual is a great opportunity to make some adjustments from things we saw at National Duals," Branch said. "We wrestled two top 10 teams last weekend, and some of our guys got dominated and didn't put up enough of a fight. We should be going out to fight for seven minutes, and I expect just that."
Branch will trot out a very similar lineup to what he's done the first few weeks of the season with a couple potential tweaks.
Sefton Douglass (125) leads it off followed by
David Saenz (133) or
Luke Willochell (133),
John Alden (141), No. 23
Gabe Willochell (149), No. 16
Jared Hill (157),
Sloan Swan (165), Davis or
Lane Foard (174), No. 11
Eddie Neitenbach (184), No. 5
Joey Novak (197) and No. 26
Christian Carroll (HWT).
The Lancers – who host Utah Valley on Thursday night – are 0-1 on the year. They fell to No. 20 Stanford, 29-12, and also competed at the Cyclone Invitational.
Cal Baptist tosses out a lineup consisting of Cooper Shore (125), Remy Murillo (133), Jesse Vasquez (141), Paul Kelly (149), Drayden Morton (157), Gabe Schumm (165), Mason Espinoza (174), Adonis Bonar II (184) or David Alonso (184) or Tim Cowan (184), Eli Sheeran (197) and Tristan Kemp (HWT).
"It's early and everyone is still trying to figure out their teams," Branch said. "CBU has some good guys and we need to go out and perform our best."
The Pokes throttled the Lancers a season ago in Laramie, 37-3. The last time the two met in Riverside, Wyoming claimed a 28-12 victory.
In addition to the dual, a number of Pokes will be participating in the Younes Hospitality Open in Kearney, Nebraska, on Saturday.
Isaiah Harrison (125),
Tucker Bowen (125),
Cody Phelps (133),
Christian Herrera (141),
Cole Brooks (149),
Antonio Avila (149),
Bradlee Farrer (165) and
Gunner Henry (197) are slated to competed.
Following the weekend of action, Wyoming remains on the road. The Cowboys travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, for the Cliff Keen Invite from Dec. 5-6 inside the Las Vegas Convention Center.
