Before Wyoming: Phelps competed for Michigan State in 2024-25, utilizing a redshirt en route to a 6-7 record. Prior to his stop in East Lansing, Michigan, Phelps competed at Western Wyoming Community College for two years. He was an NJCAA national champion as a sophomore with the Mustangs. Phelps went a combined 55-11 as a Mustang.

High School: Phelps competed for Pinedale High School. He’s a four-time state champion as a Wrangler.
