LUBBOCK, Texas. (Jan. 25, 2019) – The Wyoming tennis team (3-2 overall) opened up the week with a solid 7-0 win over the Midwestern State Mustangs on Friday afternoon.
 
"I felt like the team came out with a lot of energy and we were ready to go." head coach Dean Clower said. "Our doubles play is getting better each day and that's all we can ask for. In singles, we came out strong from top to bottom and put the match away early. We have a big match against Texas Tech tomorrow and we need to continue improving on our style of play."
 
Wyoming took two of three matches in the doubles action to begin the day. Junior Ana Royo and freshman Maria Oreshkina started off the day with a solid 6-1 win over Taylor Gray and Greta Lazzarotto while the Cowgirls clinched the point with a 6-4 win by the freshmen pair of Mihaela Kaftanova and Ida Krause against Biance Duff and Casie Curry. Seniors Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg dropped a tough one, 7-6 (6) against Maddy Coffman and Ashley Ramirez.
  
In singles play, the Cowgirls swept all six singles matches to come away with the victory. Koonik responded with a solid 6-3, 6-1 victory over Duff followed by van Der Ploeg with a two set win, 6-2, 6-2, against Coffman. At the fifth spot, Royo clinched the match in her straight set win over Ramirez, 6-1, 6-2. Kaftanova beat Curry, 6-4, 6-4, followed by Ana Fernandez over Lazzarotto in a tough three set match, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6). The final Cowgirl in action was Oreshkina who also needed three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9), against Lea Cizeron.
  
The Cowgirls will return to the court tomorrow morning against the 19^th ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock.
