Biography

JUNIOR (2017-18): An All-Mountain West selection in doubles for the second straight year, while earning honors in singles for the first time. Opened up the fall with a five-match winning streak in singles and went 5-4 overall. Went 2-1 at the ITA Mountain Regional. She and partner Tessa van Der Ploeg recorded a 4-6 record in doubles play. Recorded an overall singles mark of 20-8 which included a 13-3 dual record and 5-0 in MW play. Won her final 13 of 15 matches which included a nine-match winning streak. Koonik and van Der Ploeg finished with a 17-12 record in doubles and 11-5 during the spring. The pair also went undefeated in league play. Currently ranks tied for 15th with 51 doubles victories and 19th in singles wins with 53.

SOPHOMORE (2016-17): An All-Mountain West selection in doubles for the first time in her career. Opened up the fall season with a 6-1 singles record which included a five-match winning streak. Went 1-1 at the ITA Mountain Regional. Had an overall record of 19-8 and 14-5 in dual play at the fourth and fifth positions. Finished 2-2 in league play. In doubles action, she went 20-7 overall on the year. She and partner Tessa van Der Ploeg recorded a 19-7 overall record, 12-3 during the spring and a perfect 5-0 MW mark playing at the number one spot. The pair qualified for the ITA All-American in the fall, closed out the spring on a six-match winning streak and ranked as high as 70th in the Oracle/ITA Rankings (March 7).  An Academic All-MW, MW Scholar-Athlete and ITA Scholar-Athlete selection.

FRESHMAN (2015-16): Started off her career with a 4-9 record in the fall. She earned her first victory against Jordan Henry of Abilene Christian (9/18/15). Qualified for the ITA Mountain Regional Tournament. Concluded her first season with an overall singles record of 14-19 and 10-9 in the spring. Had a five-match winning streak playing mainly at the four and five positions. Her doubles record was 14-16 overall with four different playing partners. She and playing partner Tessa van Der Ploeg went 9-7 overall in dual play and a perfect 4-0 in MW play. An Academic All-MW, MW Scholar-Athlete and ITA Scholar-Athlete selection.

HIGH SCHOOL: A three-time Estonian Champion while attending Audentese Spordikool. She won several ITF, ETA and national tournaments in both singles and doubles. Koonik was coached by Ain Suurthal.

PERSONAL: Born May 7, 1997 in Tallinn, Estonia. She is the daughter Remo Koonik and Kristel Uusvali and has one sister, Arabella. Koonik is majoring in marketing.
