TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 13, 2019) – The Wyoming tennis team (2-1 overall) split its final two matches to close out the weekend on Sunday. The Cowgirls defeated Louisiana Tech 7-0 but dropped a tough one against the 22^nd ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane, 7-0.
  
In singles play, the Cowgirls swept all six matches against the Lady Techsters. Tessa van Der Ploeg earned a two set victory, 6-2, 7-5, against Sonia Chen followed by a straight set win, 6-3, 6-3, by Elisa Koonik over Nadja Manjon. Ana Royo needed three sets but defeated Ana Jover, 6-0, 6-7, 6-2, to clinch the match for UW. Mihaela Kaftanova cruised in her win against Claudia Oravcova, 6-0, 6-0 while Maria Oreshkina beat Andrea Perez-Lopez, 6-4, 6-0. The final Cowgirl to come away with a win was Ida Krause in a straight set win, 6-0, 6-0, over Leonie Nutz.
 
Krause and Kaftanova beat Manjon and Jover 6-2, while Chen and Oravcova beat Oreshkina and Royo, 6-3. Koonik and van Der Ploeg won by default Perez-Lopez and Nutz.
 
Tulsa swept all three matches in doubles action. The fourth ranked team in the country of Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner beat Koonik and van Der Ploeg, 6-0, followed by Martha Matoula and Shura Poppe defeating Krause and Kaftanova, 6-2. The duo of Oreshkina and Royo fell to Manon Meulenber and Marina Davtyan, 6-2.
 
The Golden Hurricane continued its solid play in singles. Koonik lost in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, against Matoula followed by Ploner beating Oreshkina, 6-1, 6-4. van Der Ploeg dropped a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) contest against Okalova. Poppe defeated Royo, 6-2, 6-2, while Kaftanova battled in a three set loss, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5, against Megan Hopton. The final Cowgirl in action was Krause who lost to Arianna Capogrosso, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 10-6.  
  
The Cowgirls will return to the court on next Sunday against the ninth ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls. The match is set for 12 p.m. MT in Stillwater.
