Biography

2019-20 (Junior):  Bryce Waters had a strong first season as a Wyoming Cowboy after transferring to the University of Wyoming from Odessa Community College in Texas.  Waters played in all eight of Wyoming’s tournaments in the 2019-20 season.  His best tournament finishes in his first season at the NCAA Division I level were a 14th-place showing at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, a 27th-place finish at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate and a 28th at the Ram Masters Invitational.  He averaged 74.58 strokes per round for the year. His low round of the season was a 66 (-6) in the first round of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite.  In the summer of 2019, Waters qualified for the U.S. Amateur by capturing one of two automatic qualifying spots at the Odessa, Texas, U.S. Amateur Qualifier.  Waters shot a 36-hole total of 138 (-6) to tie for the top spot in the qualifier.  The  Odessa, Texas, U.S. Am qualifier was played on the Odessa Country Club Old Course and featured a field of 78 amateur golfers.  The 119th U.S. Amateur Championship was played at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C., on Aug. 12-18, 2019.  Following his first season at the NCAA Division I level, Waters was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).  He was also selected an Academic All-Mountain West honoree  
 
Junior College:  A native of Midland, Texas, the 6’4” Waters enjoyed a great deal of success at the junior-college level in his two seasons at Odessa College.  As a sophomore in the 2018-19 season, he helped lead Odessa Community College to a ninth-place team finish at the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Golf Championship.  Waters tied for 16th as an individual at the 2019 NJCAA National Golf Championship, and was named an Honorable Mention All-American for the second consecutive season.  As a freshman in the 2017-18 campaign, Waters was part of an Odessa team that posted a fourth-place finish at the 2018 NJCAA National Championship.  Waters placed 18th individually at the national championships as a freshman, earning Honorable Mention All-America honors for the first time in his career.  Odessa also won the NJCAA District 2 Championship in 2018, as Waters tied for 14th place.
 
High School:  At Midland Christian High School, Waters led his golf team to the state championship as a senior, and he was named First Team All-State.  Also an outstanding high school basketball player, he was named District MVP and earned First Team All-State honors from the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS).
 
Personal: He is the son of Tammie and Darren Waters.  He is majoring in management at Wyoming.
