2023-24 (Graduate): Jimmy Dales opened the 2023 fall season with a Top 25 finish, posting a 21st-place showing at the Ram Masters Invitational. That tied him for the best finish of any Cowboy in the Ram Masters and helped lead the Cowboys to a fifth-place finish as a team. During the winter amateur season, Dales captured two amateur titles. On Dec. 30, 2023, he won the Orlando International Amateur in Orlando, Fla., against a field of 180 of the top amateur golfers from around the world. He followed up that individual title with a second amateur tournament championship one week later on Jan. 4, 2024, when he won the Sonoroan Amateur in Scottsdale, Ariz., against a field of 124 amateurs. He will enter the 2024 spring season with 12 career Top 25 finishes. He has played in 41 of 44 college tournaments during his playing career at Wyoming.
2022-23 (Junior): Dales competed in 11 of Wyoming’s 13 tournaments during the 2022-23 season. He tied for second on the Cowboy team in Top 25 finishes with five for the season. Dales finished the season strong, posting four of his Top 25 finishes in UW’s final five tournaments. His best showing was a sixth-place finish in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, helping the Cowboys to a fourth-place team finish. He tied teammate Kirby Coe-Kirkham for 13th at the Mountain West Conference Championship as they led UW to a fifth-place team finish to tie for Wyoming’s best finish at an MW Championship. Dales placed 17th at the BYU Cougar Classic as the Cowboys finished fifth out of 16 teams. In the inaugural GOLFWEEK National Golf Invitational postseason tournament, Dales finished 21st and helped lead Wyoming to a second-place finish, tying Penn State for second in the 13-team field. His other Top 25 finish was a 25th-place showing at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, helping Wyoming capture the team championship. For the fourth time in his career, he earned Academic All-Mountain West Conference honors, and he received MW Scholar-Athlete honors for the third time as a Cowboy. For the second time in his college career, Dales received All-America Scholar honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). In May of 2023, he received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Wyoming. In June of 2023, Dales reached the final qualifying round of the U.S. Open in Springfield, Ohio. Later in the summer, he qualified for and competed in the greatest amateur golf tournament in the world, the U.S. Amateur in Colorado. It was Dales second time playing in the U.S. Amateur. He also played in the 2021 U.S. Amateur in Pennsylvania.
2021-22 (Redshirt Sophomore): Dales was the top performer for the Cowboy Golf team in the 2021-22 season. His 72.38 stroke average was the lowest on the team, and his six Top 25 finishes were also a team best. Dales’ best finishes were a seventh-place finish at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational and a seventh-place showing at the Mountain West Championship, which was the highest by any Cowboy on the 2022 team at the MW Championship. His other Top 25 finishes included: a 10th-place finish at the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational, a 15th at the William H. Tucker Invitational, an 18th at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational and a 22nd-place finish at the Ram Masters Invitational. In February of 2022, Dales played in an elite field of 17 collegiate golfers at the Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase. The redshirt sophomore shot an impressive even-par round of 71 on the legendary Riviera Country Club Course in Los Angeles and finished in fifth place. For the first time in his career, he was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) in the spring of 2022. He also earned Academic All-MW honors for the third time in his career and MW Scholar-Athlete honors for the second time.
2020-21 (COVID Sophomore): Dales didn’t compete in the 2020-21 collegiate season, but in August of 2021 he was one of only 312 amateur golfers to qualify for and play in the 121st U.S. Amateur at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa., and Longue Vue Club in Verona, Pa. Dales captured medalist honors at the U.S. Amateur Qualifier hosted at the Walnut Creek Country Club in South Lyon, Mich., to earn his spot in the 2021 U.S. Amateur. Dales earned Academic All-Mountain West for the second time and Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors for the first time.
2019-20 (Sophomore): Jimmy Dales redshirted the 2019-20 season. The 2019-20 season was of course cut short in March of 2020 due to COVID-19.
2018-19 (Freshman): Dales played in 12 of 13 tournaments for the Cowboys as a true freshman. His best individual finish came in the 2019 spring season when he tied for 37th at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Arizona. Dales best tournament total also came in the Cowboy Classic, shooting a 54-hole tournament score of 217 (+1). He shot his low individual round of 68 (-3) in the second round of the Grand Canyon Invitational, also during the spring season. For the year, Dales averaged 76.14 strokes per round. He earned Academic All-Mountain West honors as a freshman.
High School: Dales joined the Cowboy golf team from Northville High School in Northville, Mich. He came to Wyoming as a very experienced golfer on the amateur circuit. Dales won the IMG Junior World Qualifier in South Lyon, Mich. He also captured the Michigan Junior Amateur Qualifier in Novi, Mich., and the Golfweek Junior Tour event at Forest Akers, a course owned by Michigan State University. Dales carded rounds of 70 and 69 to take third in the Michigan Junior Amateur in the summer of 2018, and was runner-up at the Golfweek Junior Tour event at the University of Michigan in October 2017. In 2016, he won the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier in Medina, Ohio, and also was the individual medalist at the Hurricane Junior Tour College Prep Series in Indiana. Dales was an Honorable Mention All-State selection in Michigan. He also earned First Team All-Conference for the Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA). Dales received multiple All-Area distinctions from local media outlets. He played for coach Chris Cronin at Northville High.
Personal: His parents are Jen and Jim Dales. He is majoring in economics.
