Biography

Junior (2017-18): Recorded the fifth fastest time in school history in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 53.78…took third place in 100 breaststroke at the WAC Championships with his all-time top five time of 53.78…was part of the relay team that took third in the 200 medley relay at the WAC Championships…also swam on 200 free relay team that took third at WAC Championships with a time of 1:20.53.
 
Sophomore (2016-17): Recorded his top finish in the 50 freestyle against Colorado School of Mines, placing second with a time of 20.98…recorded three season-best times at the 2017 WAC Championships, two of which were the fastest times of his UW career…his season-best time in the 50 freestyle was enough for 17th place…clocked a career-best time of 44.47 in the 100 freestyle to place tenth, and also had the fastest 100 breaststroke race of his career with a 54.38, placing sixth. 

Freshman (2015-16): Murphy concluded his freshman season competing in a number of events at the 2016 MW Championships…in the 50 free final at the championships, he took 14th overall with a time of 20.36…additionally, he was a member of the fourth place 200 freestyle team at the championships…placed fifth in the 100 free (47.96) in his first collegiate meet against Denver…followed that with three top-five finishes against LSU…recorded a 30.06 in the 50 breast, a 1:07.49 in the 100 breast and a 24.10 in the 50 free for UW…was a key part of the upset over No. 14 Utah as he took third in the 50 free with a time of 21.31, and finished fourth (21.61) in the same event against Pac-12 opponent Arizona State. He also took fifth in the 50 free (21.45) and fourth in the 100 free (46.27).

High School:  He was a four-time letter winner and three-time captain at Southland High School…during his junior season, he was a state champion in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, along with relay champions in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay…on top of that, during his junior year his team won the Georgia Independent School Association team title…along the way he set state records in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and with his teammates he set a relay record in the 200 freestyle relay…during his senior season he also re-broke his own records in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke leading his team to their second consecutive state title…was a four-time Honor Roll member, a USA Swimming Scholastic All American, Beta Club member during his junior and senior year and also the winner of the Biology award and Geography award.

Personal: He is the son of David and Laura Murphy and has one younger sister Allie…majoring in kinesiology and health promotion.
