LARAMIE, Wyoming (2/6/26) – The University of Wyoming wrestling team snapped its modest two-dual losing streak in emphatic fashion Friday night. The No. 25 Cowboys throttled Air Force, 36-9, inside the UniWyo Sports Complex.
"I thought they responded well," head coach
Mark Branch said. "We've had such a tough schedule. It feels like every dual has been such a tough dual. It has been ranked team after ranked team. It felt good to sit back and enjoy watching our guys do what we want them to do."
No. 8
Christian Carroll (HWT) did what he does and did so at the start of the dual. The night began with the heavyweights, and Wyoming's didn't need the allotted seven minutes to stake his team to a 5-0 lead. He recorded his, 21-6, technical fall in 4:37.
"Christian embodies what we want all of our guys to do," Branch said. "He's going to go out and score points in the first period. It's very typical for him to score three or four takedowns in a period. It would be nice to have him start us off every time. He set the tone for the team."
Carroll was one of six bonus-point wins for the Pokes on Friday. No. 25
Luke Willochell (133) reestablished a lead for his team with a pin of Gavin Caprella that vaulted the Cowboys ahead, 11-5.
David Saenz (141) gave Wyoming some stability at a weight that's been problematic. He defeated Carter Nogle via decision, 11-5, which stretched the advantage to 14-5.
No. 27
Gabe Willochell (149) and No. 30
Jared Hill (157) each bounced back in a big way from losses last weekend. Willochell downed Bryce Shelton via major decision, 12-1, and Hill beat Lincoln Gregersen via major decision, 11-3.
Sloan Swan (165) may have logged the biggest win of the night. He upset No. 33 Logan Fowler via decision, 6-0. It was Swan's third win in his last four bouts, two of which have been over a ranked foe.
No. 31
Riley Davis (174) and No. 9
Eddie Neitenbach (184) capped the win. Davis pinned Michael Avelar in 2:05 and Neitenbach earned his 20-5 technical fall in 6:05.
The win improves Wyoming to 5-5 on the season and 4-1 in Big 12 action. The loss drops Air Force to 4-6 overall and 0-5 in league play.
The Cowboys are back in action Sunday. They host North Dakota State at 1 p.m. inside the UniWyo Sports Complex.
