Cowboy Have Another Solid Day and Position Themselves for a Title Defense

Davis Seybert shoots lowest round of his season

PALM DESERT, Calif.  (Feb. 7, 2024)  - The Wyoming Cowboys remain in the hunt to defend their Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate title finishing the second day of action with a score of 282 (-6) on Wednesday during the second round of the event hosted at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. UW is six stroke back of Grand Canyon for first place and held a lead late in the round.
 
"We had the lead on 17th green with two holes left and we finished strong, but Grand Canyon finished stronger," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "I'm proud of the guys and we are in position to win the golf tournament. We have put ourselves in a great spot and we have to play with great confidence tomorrow, but I feel good with the effort from the guys this week."
 
Jaren Calkins had another solid round for the Pokes with a 71 (-1) for a two-round score of 140 (-4). He sits in a tie for fifth place. Patrick Azevedo shot a 70 (-2) for a two-round score of 142 (-2). He is currently in tied for tenth place.
 
Kristof Panke added another solid day going for 72 (E). He has a two-round total of 144 (E) and is in 22nd place in a tie with Jimmy Dales finished the second round with a 74 (+3) and is even par through two rounds. Davis Seybert shot the lowest round of the day for the Brown and Gold with a 69 (-3) and is on-over par for the tournament in tie for 32nd place. It was his lowest round of the season.
 
Evan Johnson is playing as an individual finished with a 78 and is nine-over par for the tournament. Noah Wagner finished with an 81 on Wednesday and is Twenty over par the tournament.  
 
The field is led by Nicky Kling of Grand Canyon at 136 (-8) through two rounds after shooting a 67 (-5) in the second round. Tegan Andrews of CSU Fullerton and Colton Cherry of Southern Utah are at 139 (-5) in tie for second place along with round one lead Gavin O'Neill of Grand Canyon. Calkins and a host of others tied for fifth.
 
Grand Canyon still leads the team race at 558 (-18). The Pokes at 564 (-12) are in second followed by Oral Roberts in third with a 565 (-11) after a solid round on Wednesday.
 
The tournament concludes tomorrow morning with a 10 a.m. MT start.
