Biography

2023-24 (Junior): Azevedo started 13 of the 14 tournaments, only missing Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational because of injury. He logged his best finish at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, tying for 11th with a final score of 212 (-4). That was one of four top-25 finishes for Azevedo with another occurring at the Mountain West Conference Championships where he placed 22nd at 217 (+1). The other two were the Ram Masters Invitational (T-21st) and the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational (T-17th). He broke 70 three times, shooting 69s, once at Mark Simpson once at Lamkin San Diego Classic and again at the NGI.
 
2022-23 (Sophomore):  Azevedo was Wyoming’s top performer during the 2022-23 season.  He led the Cowboys in stroke average (71.72) and posted an impressive nine Top 25 finishes in the 13 fall stroke-play tournaments he participated -- the most by any Cowboy.  His second-place finish at the Ram Masters was the highest finish by any Poke in the 2022-23 season.  As a sophomore, Azevedo also posted a third-place showing at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, finished ninth at the William H. Tucker Invitational, placed 11th at the BYU Cougar Classic and 17th at the Mountain West Championship.  His other four Top 25 finishes came at the: Arizona N.I.T. (20th), Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate (23rd), Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational (25th) and Wyoming Cowboy Classic (25th).  Azevedo was the top individual finisher in five of 13 tournaments in the 2022-23 season.  He earned both Academic All-Mountain West Conference and MW Scholar-Athlete honors for the third consecutive season.  For the first time in his college career, Azevedo received All-America Scholar honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).  In May of 2023, he received his bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship from Wyoming, completing his degree in three years. 
 
2021-22 (Redshirt Freshman):  In his first season competing for Wyoming, Azevedo recorded the second best stroke average on the team, with a 73.17.  His five Top 25 finishes was also second best on the team.  He concluded his redshirt freshman season placing ninth at the MW Championships.  Earned Academic All-Mountain West and MW Scholar-Athlete honors for the second time in his career.
 
2020-21 (Freshman):  Azevedo redshirted his freshman season at Wyoming.  Achieved both Academic All-Mountain West and Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors for the first time as a Cowboy.
 
High School:  Azevedo finished third as a junior at the Washington Class 2A State Golf Championship in May of 2019.  He won the 2A State Championship as a freshman in the spring of 2017 and placed fifth as a sophomore in 2018.  The state of Washington didn’t have a state championship in the spring of 2020 due to COVID.  In the summer of 2019, Azevedo enjoyed a great deal of success in several Washington Junior Golf Association (WJGA) tournaments.  He placed second overall at the WJGA Players Open.  He captured the District 4 Sub-District #1 tournament championship and the District 4 Sub-District #3 tournament on way to winning his second straight WJGA District 4 Championship.  He also captured the WJGA District 4 Championship in the summer of 2018.  In the summer of 2019, Azevedo was one of only four junior golfers to earn the opportunity to represent the state of Washington in the 2019 Hogan Cup, which has been played at the Riverside Golf and Country Club in Portland, Ore., every year since 1969.  The Hogan Cup pits the top junior golfers from the Western United States and Canada against each other in a team competition.  Azevedo also was an IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championship Qualifier in 2019, tying for third place.  While golf will be his sport at the collegiate level, Azevedo was a multi-sport athlete in high school playing football and basketball at Othello High.  He was his football team’s MVP in 2019 and earned First Team All-Conference honors as an outside linebacker and return specialist.  Azevedo also was team captain for his basketball team in 2019.  He played for Othello head golf coach Brian Lumsden.
 
Personal: Azevedo grew up on his parents dairy farm, Azevedo & Sons Diary, outside Othello.  His parents are Guiomar (mother) and Lisuarte (father) Azevedo.  He is majoring in entrepreneurship.
