LINCOLN, Nebraska (1/6/24) – The University of Wyoming wrestling team didn't find a great deal of success Saturday inside the Devaney Center. The Cowboys, competing in a triangular with Northern Iowa and Nebraska, dropped both contests.

The Panthers – who were receiving votes in the most recent NWCA Coaches' Poll – downed Wyoming, 36-6. No. 7 Nebraska defeated the Pokes, 44-3. The results move the Cowboys to 3-5 on the season and 1-3 in Big 12 action.

No. 8 Jore Volk (125) was one of the few bright spots for Wyoming. He posted a pair of ranked wins to improve his record to 16-4 on the season and 6-4 versus ranked grapplers.

Volk's most impressive win Saturday occurred against the Cornhuskers. The Lakeville, Minnesota, native defeated No. 2 Caleb Smith via decision, 5-1. Smith only has two losses on the season, and both have come at the hands of Volk, the first occurring at the Cliff Keen Invitational last month.

No. 22 Gabe Willochell (149) provided the other Wyoming victory Saturday. He topped Northern Iowa's Adam Allard via decision, 7-2. Willochell is now 12-6 on the season after being pinned by Nebraska's No. 1 Ridge Lovett.

No. 15 Joey Novak (197) faced a pair of ranked wrestlers and fell in both contests. He lost to Northern Iowa's No. 19 Wyatt Voekler via decision, 5-3, before losing via a first-period pin to Nebraska's No. 11 Silas Allred.

No. 31 Cole Brooks (141) returned from injury for Wyoming. He only wrestled against the Cornhuskers and fell to No. 6 Brock Hardy via major decision, 14-3.

The Cowboys return home next week. They host Air Force on Friday at 6 p.m. inside the UniWyo Sports Complex.
