Laramie, Wyo. (Aug. 10, 2023) -- For the 14th consecutive year, the University of Wyoming men's golf team has earned an Outstanding Team Academic Award from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and for the second time in school history the Cowboys also received the prestigious President's Special Recognition Award for the 2022-23 academic year.

The President's Special Recognition Award is presented to college golf programs that have achieved a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average or better for the past academic year.  Wyoming was one of only 54 NCAA Division I programs to receive that recognition this year out of 297 Division I programs in the nation.  The Cowboys previously earned the President' Special Recognition Award for the 2020-21 academic year.

In order to receive an Outstanding Team Academic Award from the GCAA, a team has to achieve a team grade-point average of 3.00 or above.  Wyoming has met that high academic standard every season since the 2009-10 academic year -- 14 consecutive years.

Members of this year's Cowboy Golf team that is directed by head coach Joe Jensen included: Patrick AzevedoJaren Calkins, Kirby Coe-Kirkham, Jimmy Dales, Aidan Mann, Cade McLaughlin, Kristof Panke and Tyler Severin.

The All-Academic Team award follows a recent announcement that six Cowboy golfers earned GCAA All-America Scholar honors for the 2022-23 season, which tied them with Harvard for the most individuals named to the team this year.  Those six team members named All-America Scholars were: Patrick Azevedo, Jaren Calkins, Kirby Coe-Kirkham, Jimmy Dales, Kristof Panke and Tyler Severin.  All-America Scholars must maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.20 and must have participated in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds for the season, while maintaining a stroke average under 76.0 at the NCAA Division I level.  A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
