Biography

2023-24 (Junior): Calkins started all 14 tournaments. He recorded his best finish at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, tying for sixth at 214 (-2). That was one of four top-25 finishes for Calkins with the other three being the Ram Masters Invitational (T-21st), the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational (T-17th) and the NGI (T-17th). He broke 70 four times, with his best scoring being a 67 at the Arizona NIT. Calkins finished tied for 32nd at the Mountain West Conference Championship at 220 (+4).
 
2022-23 (Sophomore):  Calkins posted a 71.81 stroke average for the 2022-23 season, placing him a close second on the Cowboy team behind Patrick Azevedo’s 71.72 stroke average.  Calkins earned four Top 25 finishes during the season.  All four of those finishes were actually Top 10 finishes, which were the most on the Cowboy squad for the 2022-23 season.  His best finish was fourth place at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.  He placed fifth at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational.  In both those tournaments, he was Wyoming’s top individual finisher and he helped Wyoming capture team championships in both tournaments.  His other two Top 10 showings were a fifth-place finish at the Ram Masters Invitational and a sixth-place finish in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.  Calkins help Wyoming to fourth-place team finishes in both the Ram Masters and the Cowboy Classic.  In May of 2023, Calkins advanced to the final qualifying round of the U.S. Open in Dallas, Texas.  He earned Academic All-Mountain West Conference honors for the second consecutive season.  For the first time in his college career, Calkins received All-America Scholar honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).  
 
2021-22 (Freshman):  In his true freshman season, Calkins played in 10 of Wyoming’s 13 tournaments.  His best finish was a fifth-place showing while competing as an individual at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational.  He placed 28th at the 2022 Mountain West Championships.  Calkins earned Academic All-Mountain West and MW Scholar-Athlete honors for the first time in his college career.
 
High School:  Calkins was a two-time individual high school state champion in the state of Wyoming and led Lander Valley High to three consecutive state team titles in the fall of 2017, ‘18 and ‘19.  He was also named the 2020 Wyoming State Golf Association Boys Player of the Year and won the 2020 Wyoming State Golf Association Men’s Amateur Championship.  Calkins was a four-time All-State selection in high school.  He captured individual state titles his freshman and junior seasons and placed second as a senior in Class 3A.  Lander Valley also won conference championships each of those three seasons.  He was a team captain all four years of high school, earned All-Conference honors all four years and was the individual conference champion for four consecutive seasons.  As a junior, Calkins was presented with the Lew Lepore Wyoming High School Male Player of the Year award.
 
Personal:  Throughout all four years of his high school career, Calkins was an Honor Roll student, and he was a member of the National Honor Society his sophomore, junior and senior years.  He played for coaches Mike Watson and Tyler Roberts.  He is the son of Leslie and Kent Calkins.  He is majoring in finance.
