LARAMIE, Wyo. (April 1, 2023) – It will be a familiar setting this week for the Wyoming Cowgirl Golf squad as they head to Maricopa, Arizona and AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club to host the annual Wyoming Cowgirl Classic April 3-4.

"We are very fortunate to host a "home" event at f first-class property and have such a great relationship with the professional staff at AK-Chin Southern Dunes. We know what we need to prepare for to be successful on the desert layout and we learned a lot as a team over the last two events, all of which will benefit us." Head Women's Golf Coach Josey Stender said, "I believe we are on our sixth different lineup for the year and it has been exciting to see the competitive depth grow. We will also be relying heavily on the experience of our leaders as they know each time we tee it up, it is going to be a battle this April."

The Cowgirls are coming off a 16th place team finish at the Red Rocks Invitational where they were led by Jadan Gonzalez and Meghan Vogt who both finished tied for 39th. The duo of Vogt and Gonzalez also helped the Cowgirl to their first tournament win since 2015 earlier this season when they both finished tied for seventh at the SUU Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Classic pushing the Cowgirls to a team title.

Rounding out the Cowgirl lineup in Arizona will be Morgan Ryan, Samantha Hui and Grace Dunkleberger. The duo of Sophie Spiva and Rachel Stoinski will be in action competing as individuals.

The Cowgirls will be up against a competitive field in Arizona that features some familiar opponents including three teams from the Mountain West in Boise State, Fresno State and UNLV.

UNLV will enter the Cowgirl Classic coming off of a tied for sixth place finish at the Mountain View Invitational where they posted a season low team core of 852 (-12).  Fresno State also enters the Cowgirl Classic on a hot streak coming off of a win at the Fresno State Classic where they put together a come from behind effort to earn their first team title since 2016.

The first round of play is set to tee off from the 6,191 yard, par 72 course on Monday at 8:30 a.m. MT with two rounds of play scheduled for Monday. The final round of play is set to take place on Tuesday.
