The spring season continues for the Wyoming Cowboys this coming Monday and Tuesday when the Pokes will host a 21-team field in the 2023 Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
The tournament will be played at the Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.
The 54-hole Cowboy Classic will include two 18-hole rounds on Monday, April 3 and a final 18-hole round on Tuesday, April 4.
2022-23 Team and Individual Successes
The Cowboys have enjoyed an outstanding 2022-23 season, winning two team titles at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational during the fall portion of the season and capturing their own Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate during the spring season.
Leading the way for the Cowboys individually this season have been sophomores
Patrick Azevedo and
Jaren Calkins, who are averaging 71.38 and 71.96 strokes per round, respectively. Senior
Kirby Coe-Kirkham is close behind at 72.57 strokes per round. Azevedo has six Top 25 finishes in eight tournaments this season to pace the Pokes.
2023 Wyoming Cowboy Classic Tournament Field
The 21 teams in this year's field include: host Wyoming, Denver, Grand Canyon, Iowa State, Kansas, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Missouri, Pacific, San Diego State, St. Mary's College, Southern Utah, TCU, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, UNLV, UT Arlington, Utah State, Utah Valley, UTEP and Weber State. Individuals from Arizona State will also be competing.
Four Mountain West schools will be in the field: Wyoming, San Diego State, UNLV and Utah State.
Three Big 12 schools will compete in: Iowa State, Kansas and TCU.
Missouri of the SEC is also in the tournament field.
