St. George, Utah (March 9, 2023) – The Wyoming Cowgirl Golf squad got off to an incredible start at the SUU Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational on Monday at the Sunbrook Golf Course.  After one round of play the Cowgirls sit it in first place as a team while Samantha Hui sits in second in the individual standings. 
 
Hui played well all day long posting six birdies, the second most by any player on the day, on her way to finishing the round with a score of 70 (-2) to sit alone in second after 16 holes of play. The duo of Meghan Vogt and Jadan Gonzalez finished the day in the top five as well with both of them shooting a 72 (E) to close out the day tied for fourth. Morgan Ryan finished her day tied for 30^th with a score of 76 (+4) while Sophie Spiva rounded out the Cowgirl lineup finishing the first round tied for 46^th.  
 
Playing as individuals, Rachel Stoinksi finished the first round tied for 82^nd while Grace Dunkleberger finished the first round tied for 90^th. 
 
As a team, the Cowgirls posted a score of 290 (+2) finishing the round three stoked ahead of second place Boise State and four strokes ahead of third place North Dakota State. The Cowgirls tallied 17 birdies and 17 pars in the opening round to lead the field in both of those categories. The first-round score of 290 (+2) ranks third all-time in program history in lowest single round team scores marking the third time this season that the Cowgirls have registered a top 10 all time low team round score. 
 
The Cowgirls will now look to build off of their momentum tomorrow with the second round of play set to tee off at 9 a.m. MT. The tournament will conclude with the final round of play on Saturday.
