CORVALLIS, Oregon (Feb. 11, 2023) – The Wyoming Cowboy wrestling squad closed out their dual schedule on Saturday night with a road tilt against Oregon State. Three Cowboys picked up wins on the night, but Wyoming dropped the dual to the Beavers, 10-20.
"We showed a lot of fight tonight and some of our guys had their best efforts of the year." Head Wrestling Coach
Mark Branch said, "Job was doer tonight, there are triers and there are doers and when the match got gritty, Job got it done. That was the best match of his career because of the grit he showed. We had a tough dual season but I feel better about our team than I have all year. These guys are starting to inspire me."
In the match of the night,
Job Greenwood squared off against No. 25 ranked Cleveland Belton. Belton jumped out to an early 4-1 lead and held that lead heading into the third period. With only two minutes to get the win, Greenwood mounted a furious comeback notching two takedowns drawing the match even at 6-6. With time running out on the clock, Greenwood completed the comeback scoring his third takedown of the period to seal the 8-6 upset win over No. 25 Belton.
At 125 pounds, No. 18
Jore Volk cruised to a major decision victory over Caleb Coyle. After a scoreless first period, Volk put Coyle to his back in the second taking a 4-0 lead. Volk closed out the match with an offensive flurry coming away with the 10-1 major decision victory.
At 157 pounds, No. 14
Jacob Wright found himself in a battle with Isaiah Crosby. Crosby struck first in the match and jumped out to a 4-2 lead after two periods. In the third period however it was all Wright as he scored three unanswered points and tacked on the riding time point to win the match 6-4. With the win Wright now bumps his career win total to 99 sitting one win away from the century mark.
Up next for the Cowboys will be a couple weeks off to prepare for the post season before they head to Tulsa, Oklahoma to compete in the Big 12 Championships March 4-5 taking their first step towards the NCAA tournament.
