Wyoming Cowboys in Ninth Place After First Day of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational

Erie, Colo. (Oct. 2, 2023) --  After Monday's opening 36 holes of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational the Wyoming Cowboys are in ninth place in the field of 17 teams led by juniors Patrick Azevedo and Kristof Panke.  Wyoming, who is the defending team champion from a year ago, shot rounds of 289 (+1) and 290 (+2) on Monday for a 36-hole total of 379 (+3).  Azevedo fired rounds of 71 (-1) and 72 (Even) for a 143 (-1) two-round total to tie for 23rd.  Panke is only one shot back of Azevedo at 144 (Even) to tie for 30th place entering Tuesday's final round.
 
San Francisco holds a seven-stroke lead over UTEP in the team competition.  USF posted a 558 (-18) first day total, while the Miners sit at 565 (-11).  The individual leaders are Tobias Jonsson of Mercer and Benjamin Partridge of San Francisco.  Both fired 36-hole totals of 138 (-6).  They hold a one-stroke lead over four other individuals, who at at 139 (-5).
 
The other three Cowboys competing as part of Wyoming's team are: Jimmy Dales, tied for 56th at 147 (+3); Jaren Calkins, tied for 61st at 148 (+4); and Davis Seybert, tied for 68th at 149 (+5).  Two Cowboy freshmen are playing as individuals in this week's Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational.  Noah Wagner is tied for 87th, with a 154 (+10) total; and
Evan Johnson is in 98th place at 160 (+16).
 
The Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational is being played at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo.  The course measures 7,787 yards and plays to a par 72.  Tuesday's final round is scheduled to tee off beginning at 8:10 a.m., Mountain Time.  Wyoming will tee off at 8:30 a.m. and will be paired with Boise State, UT Arlington and Denver.
