Laramie, Wyo. (Sept. 30, 2022) -- The Wyoming Cowboy golf team will be looking to continue its outstanding play this fall when they return to action next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 3-4 at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational.
The Cowboys will be competing in a 16-team field at the Simpson, which will be played at the Boulder Country Club in Boulder, Colo.
In its last two fall tournaments, the Cowboys finished fifth out of 15 teams at the Ram Masters Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo., and placed seventh out of 19 teams at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M.
At the Ram Masters, Wyoming had four individuals post Top 25 finishes, led by
Patrick Azevedo and
Jaren Calkins, who placed second and fifth, respectively.
Kristof Panke (11th) and
Cade McLaughlin (19th) also finished in the Top 25 at the Ram Masters. At the Tucker Intercollegiate, Azevedo finished ninth and
Tyler Severin placed 21st for two more Top 25 showings.
Azevedo is leading the Cowboys in scoring average this season, averaging 69.56 strokes per round. Out of the nine rounds he has played this fall, Azevedo has posted six sub-par rounds, one par round and only two rounds over par. Severin is second on the team in stroke average at 71.78.
