BOULDER, Colo. — The University of Wyoming Track & Field Teams traveled to Boulder for a full state of completion on Saturday April 9th at the CU Invitational. The Cowboys and Cowboys got things started on Friday with a few events but most of the action took place today.
DISTANCE
Seth Bruxvoort and Josh Rodgers made a mark for the Pokes in the 3000M Steeplechase a 9:32.72. On the women's side of things Katelyn Mitchem and Anna Spear went one-three for the Cowgirls. Mitchem ran a time of 10:43.68 to smoke the competition by 40 seconds while Spear took third with a time of 11:26.59.
Joseph Rodgers ran a 1:51.44 to finish second in the 800M. Rodgers was first amongst collegiate performers but fell to a runner competing for Elevated Performance in the event.
In one of the final events of the day Gus McIntyre and Trevor Stephen took first and third respectively in the 3000 Meters. McIntyre ran a 8:55.23 while Stephen went 9:25.46. Three Cowgirls swept the top three spots with Leah Christians, Kylie Simshauser and Abigail Whitman. Christians ran a 10:11.89, Simshauser a 10:21.42, and Whitman a 10:30.89.
SPRINTS
Shayla Howell notched a second-place finish for the Cowgirls in the 100M dash as she ran a 11.92. Caroline Larsson and Jenae Ramirez posted times of 1:05.13 and 1:05.81 respectively in the 400M Hurdles. The Cowgirls finished five-six in the event.
For the men, Jaymison Cox ran a 47.91 in the 400M for a third place finish.
JUMPS
Howell continues to be dominant in the Long Jump while teammate Sadie McMullen placed in second right behind her. Howell went 21-0.75 for the win with McMullen notching a mark of 19-2 in the event.
Kayla Stibley took a first place nod in the Pole Vault with Cowgirl Aubrey Sanchez taking fourth. Stibley went 11-5.75 with Sanchez also clearing the same height.
The Cowboys went four-five-six in the High Jump. Samuel Schneider and Pete Mead both cleared 6-5 while Hunter Brown's best mark on the day was 6-3.25.
THROWS
Tarique George took fourth place in the Discus. George threw 166-2 for the best finish amongst Wyoming men. Cossette Stellern took fourth place on the women's side of the event with a mark of 153-8.
In the Shot Put Logan DeRock took fifth while Jordan Christensen was right behind her in sixth place. The Cowgirls went 42-0.75 and 41-11.25 in the event.
FRIDAY
The Cowboy jumpers got things started on Friday with the men's Triple jump. The duo of Hunter Brown and Jefferson Danso had a solid outing finishing third and fifth with marks of 46-8 and 46-2.75 respectively. On the women's side, Aumni Ashby had a strong showing as well going 39-2.25 to finish in the silver medal position.
Getting the meet started on Friday with the women's javelin, Logan DeRock got things off to a strong start with a third place finish with a throw of 112-4. For the Cowboys, Sage Coventry was the top placer finishing fourth with a throw of 174-0 while Bryson Engebretsen finished in 12th.
A trio of Cowgirls were in action in the women's hammer throw led by Christine Montler who finished 10th with a throw of 151-4. Mateya Mobley and Jordan Crhistensen finished in 16th and 22nd respectively. On the men's side, Daniel Carrillo was the lone Cowboy to compete in the men's hammer throw finishing 10th with a throw of 161-1.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls will be back in action next week with some student athletes competing in California at various events and some running in the Doug Max Invite in Fort Collins, Colo.
