LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 9, 2020) – The Wyoming women's tennis team will play a pair of matches this week, including finally getting the chance to host a home match as the Cowgirls welcome Eastern Washington to town Friday.
UW will begin the week with a tough non-conference road match Wednesday as it travels to face Denver in a 4 p.m., contest. The Cowgirls then welcome EWU for a 2 p.m., match in Laramie Friday.
Wyoming is coming off a split last weekend in Lincoln, Neb., as the Cowgirls lost 6-1 to Nebraska Saturday before blanking Illinois State with a 4-0 victory Sunday. The win over the Redbirds moves UW to a perfect 5-0 on the season in neutral contests.
This week will provide a couple of tough tests for the Cowgirls. Denver enters Wednesday with an 11-4 mark this spring, including a perfect 6-0 record at home at the Denver Tennis Park. Eastern Washington is 6-4 in 2020 and has a pair of road wins already on the year.
The Cowgirls continue to get multiple strong efforts so far this season as Maria Oreshkina, exclusively playing at the No. 1 singles spot, continues to pace the Cowgirls with an 8-3 mark in singles play this spring. Oreshkina, along with doubles partner Oleksandra Balaba, lead the Cowgirls with a 6-2 mark in doubles play while Clara Mansart and Ana Royo are 6-3 on the spring. The duo of Mihaela Kaftanova and Ida Krause also have six doubles wins so far.
