Pokes Claim 12 Event Titles at Doug Max Invitational

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (April 14, 2019) – The Wyoming track & field teams had a solid day at the Doug Max Invitational here in Fort Collins, as they claimed a combined 12 event titles at the Jack Christiansen Track.
 
"We actually ended up having a pretty nice day to compete," said head Wyoming track & field coach Bryan Berryhill. "Across the board, we had some solid things happen. I think a lot of the kids are looking forward to the meet this week in California. Hopefully we can get ready for that, and have some good performances out there to get us ready for the Mountain West championships."
 
On the track for the Cowgirls, Jasmyne Cooper won the 800-meter run with an altitude adjusted time of 2:17.75, finishing ahead of teammate Julia Kay O'Neill who placed second in 2:22.73. Marie Doherty set a personal best time in the 400m hurdles to win the event in 1:05.90. Kaylee Bentley led the way in the 5,000m run, crossing the line first in 17:52.57. In the same event, Victoria Tenpenny and Michelle Renner finished second and third in 18:00.90 and 18:11.52, respectively.
 
In the field, Jerayah Davis took first in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, 0.25 inches, while teammate Shayla Howell finished second with a personal-best jump of 19-3.25. Ja'la Henderson took the triple jump crown, outclassing the field with a mark of 42-4.25. Aumni Ashby finished just behind Henderson in second place with a jump of 38-8.25.
 
For the Cowboys, William Nolan swept the horizontal jumps, winning the long jump with a mark of 23-3.25 and the triple jump with a leap of 48-0.5. Alec Richardson took second in the long jump, going 23-0.5, and Reece Shannon took second in the triple jump with a mark of 46-0.5. Pete Mead took the high jump title, clearing a personal best height of 6-6.
 
Hap Frketich took the javelin title, competing in the event for the first time this season, with a career-best throw of 193-2. The Cowboy hammer throwers had a solid day as Kirk Unland took second with a throw of 192-3, Hap Frketich finished third with a mark of 186-5 and Eric McArthur took fourth with a mark of 185-11.
 
On the track, Bryce Ailshie won the 800m run in 1:53.21, and Michael Downey finished first in the 1,500m with a time of 3:49.33. Christopher Henry and Jerald Taylor finished third and fifth with times of 3:51.70 and 3:52.16, respectively.
 
The 4x100m relay team of Tyler Dahl, Jacob Harthun, Jace Marx, Roman Smith took first with a time of 42.52.
 
The Pokes are back in action this week in California, starting with the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday, April 18.
