LONG BEACH, Calif./TORRANCE, Calif. (April 18, 2019) - The Wyoming track & field teams opened up the week with several impressive performances, including Kacey Doner recording the second-fastest steeplechase time in Cowgirl history. A majority of the Pokes were at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, while the distance runners were at the Mt. SAC Relays.

"It was a good start to a very important weekend of competition," said head track and field coach Bryan Berryhill. "There were lots of personal and seasonal best performances today and we need to carry that momentum into the next two days."

On the track at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Jerayah Davis had a fantastic day, as she won two events. First, she teamed up with Ja'la Henderson, Shayla Howell and Jordan Edmonds to win the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.20. That time is No. 3 on the Wyoming all-time list. Then, she ran the 100m dash in 11.61 seconds to win that event.

Henderson also won two events, as she also won the triple jump crown with a leap of 42 feet, 7-and-a-half inches. She is the reigning Mountain West Field Athlete of the Week after winning that same event last weekend in Fort Collins, Colo. Aumni Ashby set a new personal best in that event with a mark of 39-1.75 to take fifth.

In the long jump, Howell set a personal-best mark of 19-3.5, as she placed fifth in the field of 27. She was third among collegiate jumpers.

Jasmyne Cooper also had a top-five finish, placing fifth in the 800m run with a time of 2:13.52.

Emelda Malm-Annan lead the way for the Cowgirl throwers, as her mark of 199-5 in the hammer throw was good for sixth among the 42 competitors.

For the Cowboys, Bryce Ailshie outclassed the field in the 800m event, as his season-best time of 1:50.93 was 1.31 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

In the field, Kirk Unland took eighth in the hammer throw with a personal-best throw of 199-5 to place eighth overall in a field of 37 throwers. Colton Paller also had a personal-best throw on the day, as his discus mark of 172-10 was good for eighth.

Alec Richardson also set a new personal best in the long jump, as he placed third with a mark of 23-2.5

At the Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance, Kacey Doner posted the second-fastest steeplechase time in Cowgirl history, as she won her heat in a personal-best time of 10:23.54. In the same heat, Katelyn Mitchem took eighth with a time of 10:50.57.

On the men's side, Jonah Henry placed third, crossing the finish line in 9:19.92. Some Wyoming distance runners will run the 10,000m race later tonight, and results will be included in tomorrow's recap.

The Pokes will continue their week in California tomorrow at the conclusion of the Mt. SAC Relays and at the Beach Invitational.
