LINCOLN, Neb. (Feb. 9, 2019) – The Wyoming tennis team (3-4 overall) opened up the weekend with a 5-0 loss against the Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-5 overall) on Saturday morning.
 
"Hopefully, we learned a lesson today on how to handle these type of situations in this type of match," head coach Dean Clower said. "I felt we acted and played like a young team. We are much better than what we showed and I expect things will be different tomorrow."

Nebraska took two of three matches in the doubles action to begin the day. Freshmen Mihaela Kaftanova and Ida Krause dropped a 6-1 contest against junior Claire Reifeis and freshman Jessica Aragon, while seniors Marina Cozac and Vasanti Shinde defeated seniors Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg, 7-5.  Junior Ana Royo and freshman Maria Oreshkina were the only duo to win a match with a 6-3 victory against juniors Hayley Haakenstad and Jeannie Lozowski.
 
In singles play, the Cornhuskers took four of the six matches to earn the victory.  Haakenstad earned the second point of the day for Nebraska with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Krause while freshman Ana Fernandez dropped a 6-2, 6-0 contest against Lozowski. The match was clinched with Aragon beating Royo in two sets, 6-3, 6-2, followed by van Der Ploeg falling to Shinde, 6-3, 6-1. Koonik was down 7-5, 4-2 and Oreshkina was behind, 6-2, 5-4, with both matches not finished.
  
The Cowgirls will return to the court tomorrow morning against the Drake Bulldogs. The match is scheduled for 8 a.m. MT at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln.
