PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Wyoming women's golf team opened play at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate on Saturday at the par-72, 6,097-yard course at the Classic Club, sitting in seventh after 36 holes of play. Cowgirls Erin Sargent and Sarah Hankins led the Pokes over the first two rounds, both tied for 13th.

As a team, Wyoming shot scores of 316 and 311 on Saturday at 51-over and claim seventh on the team leaderboard heading into Sunday's final round. The course challenged all 12 teams in the field, with UTEP leading the field at 32-over for the event.

"The course played tough today, especially with the high temperatures and dried out conditions," head coach Josey Stender said. "I thought Sarah played steady and managed the course very confidently. Erin had a great finish to the 36 holes after having a tough start."

Sargent overcame a tough start to her day to bounce back and work her way into the top 15 after the first day of action at 9-over on the weekend. Sargent sat at 7-over through her first 11 holes, but was able to record a pair of birdies over the final six with no bogeys to get into the clubhouse with a 5-over 77 for her first round.

The Cowgirl junior went one shot lower in her second round to card a 76. Sargent dropped in one birdie on the round, and limited herself to only a pair of bogeys over her final 16 holes.

Hankins also sits at 9-over after 36 holes. The senior sat in 10th following her first round, firing a 4-over 76. Hankins followed it up with a second-round 77.

Megan Knadler is tied for 33rd on the player leaderboard, after a 16-over day. Knadler fired a 10-over 82 in her first round before carding a 6-over 78 to wrap up the day.

Caitlyn Skavdahl shot a first-round 80 and second-round 81 to sit in a tie for 39th at 17-over after 36 holes. Kaylee Knadler is tied for 62nd after two rounds at 27-over.

Freshman Samantha Hui was the low individual for the Pokes on Saturday tying for 28th at 15-over after an 81 in her first round and a 78 in her second.

Michelle Nguyen is tied for 52nd heading into the final round at 20-over. Freshman Cristiana Ciasca is tied for 59th at 25-over.

Paired with Southern Utah, CSU Fullerton and CSUN, the Cowgirls will tee off for the final round at 7:30 a.m. PT on Sunday morning.
