PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The Wyoming women's golf team finished sixth on Sunday afternoon at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate at the 6,097-yard, par-72 Classic Club. Three Cowgirls finished in the top 25, led by Erin Sargent who tied for ninth.

"I am so appreciative of the Classic Club and their staff for helping our program put on such a great event," head coach Josey Stender said. "It truly is a first class championship property and we are privileged to host with them.

"This course demands a tremendous amount of focus and confidence in your game so I'm please we moved up and improved each round. Megan and Erin played great today. Both gave themselves opportunities to score, but just couldn't get the putts to drop"

The Cowgirls fired their lowest score of the tournament with a 309 to follow up Saturday's scores of 316 and 311 in their first two rounds. Wyoming finished at 72-over for the tournament, as the course challenged each team in the field.

UTEP took top honors on the team leaderboard at 46-over, followed by UC Riverside (+54), Cal Baptist (+58) and Santa Clara (+58). The Pokes just missed out on a top-5 finish, as Montana finished just three strokes ahead of them at 69-over after shooting the low team score of the day. UC Riverside's Jakeishya Le earned the individual tournament title at 2-over.

Sargent carded the lowest round of any Cowgirl on the weekend in her final round, firing a 2-over 74 over her final 18 to tie for ninth. The Wyoming junior rebounded from a tough start to her tournament on Saturday morning to finish at 11-over (77-76-74). Her final-round 74 tied her season low.

After a strong start on Saturday, senior Sarah Hankins turned in an 80 for her final round to tie for 17th at 17-over (76-77-80). It marked the first top-20 finish for her season.

Senior Megan Knadler fired her lowest round of the weekend in her final round, turning in a 3-over 75. Knadler finished tied for 22nd at 19-over (82-78-75) for her second top-25 finish of the season thus far.

Caitlyn Skavdahl wrapped up her weekend with a final-round 80 to finish in a tie for 42nd at 25-over. Kaylee Knadler finished in 68th after shooting an 87 in her third round.

Freshman Samantha Hui finished just a shot off of being named the tournament's low individual, tying for 28th at 21-over (81-78-78) for the best finish of her collegiate career thus far.

Michelle Nguyen also recorded the best finish of her young career, taking 33rd at 22-over (82-82-74). Cristiana Ciasca finished 57th at 31-over (82-87-78).

The Cowgirls will be back in action this weekend as they make the trip to Denver, Colo., to compete at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, which begins on Friday.
