DALLAS, Texas (Nov. 2, 2018) – The Wyoming tennis team opened up its final tournament of the fall with two individual victories and two doubles wins at the Red and Blue Challenge on Friday in Dallas.
"Today, I thought we played our style of doubles for the first time all fall," head coach
Dean Clower said. "I can't give enough credit to the newcomers for their commitment to the process and work ethic. In singles, I feel we are beginning to play our way. As a team, we are close to making the turn in playing the Cowgirl way."
In doubles play, freshmen
Mihaela Kaftanova and
Ida Krause earned a 6-4 win over Matoula and Capagrosso of Tulsa, while junior
Ana Royo and freshman
Ana Fernandez defeated Poppe and Meulenberg, 6-4. Seniors
Elisa Koonik and
Tessa van Der Ploeg fell to Oklahova and Ploner of Tulsa.
van Der Ploeg won her opening singles match, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3, over Ana Perez-Lopez of SMU, while Fernandez defeated Katherine Jakeway of SMU, 6-3, 6-3. Karina Traxler beat Koonik, 6-2, 6-3, followed by
Maria Oreshkina with a straight set loss, 6-1, 6-3, against Vivienne Kulicke. Kaftanova lost to Sarai Monarrez Yesaki, 6-4, 7-5. Krause fell to Tiffany Hollebeck, 6-4, 6-1 as did
Ana Royo to Liza Buss, 7-5 6-1.
Action will resume tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. MT at the Red and Blue Challenge.
