MARICOPA, Ariz. (April 7, 2017) – Three Cowgirls placed within the top-30 at the 2017 Cowgirl Classic to lead the Brown and Gold to an eighth-place team finish on Friday in Maricopa, Ariz. Sophomore
Megan Knadler earned her second top-15 finish of the season and tied for 13th, while freshman
Erin Sargent tied for 24th and senior
Mackenzie Barrie earned a share of 29th to pace UW.
"I want to thank the entire staff from AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club for their tremendous hospitality and championship event," Cowgirl head coach
Josey Stender said. "The team battled hard today and we were just a few putts short of where we hoped to finish. The event, like our season as a whole, was a team effort and great preparation for the Mountain West Championships."
Knadler picked up where she left off yesterday at the AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course. She fired a 74 (+2) to close out the tournament with a total mark of 222 (+6). Knadler added five birdies on Friday for what was her second top-20 finish in two years at the Cowgirl Classic. Last year as a freshman, Knadler led the team and tied for 20th in her first tournament at Southern Dunes.
Barrie recorded the best round of the day for UW with a 73 (+1). The senior finished with a 226 (+10) for the three-round tournament, as Sargent posted a 78 (+6) during the final round to close out Southern Dunes one shot ahead of Barrie.
Gabrielle Gibson finished strong with a 76 (+4) during the third round. The junior totaled a 231 (+15) and two shots ahead of redshirt sophomore
Sarah Hankins. Hankins scored a 78 (+6) on Friday morning to tie for 57th.
Taylor Dorans led the individuals for Wyoming during the two-day tournament. Dorans totaled 234 (+18) and tied for 63rd after a 78 (+6) on Friday.
Michelle Romano was just a few shots behind with a 239 (+23). She saved her best round for last as she posted a 75 (+3) during the final round.
Klara Castillo also recorded her best round of the tournament on Friday. Castillo fired a 76 (+4) and tied for 87th, as
Amanda Hinchey recorded a three-round total 257 (+41).
UC Irvine claimed the team titel with a total three-round tally of 874 (+10) as Sacramento State took second with 880 (+16). Kaitlin Collom of Nevada won the tiebreaker on the 16th hole for the individual honors. Collom and Sacramento State's Julia Becker each shot a 213 (-3) for the tournament.
The Cowgirls will close out the season at the Mountain West Championships in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The three-day championships will take place on March 17-19 at the Mission Hills Country Club.
