LONG BEACH, Calif. – Sophomore Jerayah Davis broke the UW record for the women's 100-meter dash while senior Jordan Charles tied the program record for the men's 110-meter hurdles on Thursday at Jack Rose Track in Long Beach, Calif., highlighting a number of impressive performances as the University of Wyoming track & field team began its busy weekend at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate. The Cowboys racked up 78 points as a team, reaching the top of the men's standings in the field of 24 teams, while the Cowgirls recorded 51.5 points to take fifth in a 24-team field.

Davis posted a blazing time of 11.42 seconds to win the women's 100-meter dash and break the school record of 11.50 previously set by Kereston Thomas in 2014. She won the event by over four tenths of a second on Thursday. 

"It was great for Jerayah to be the fastest Cowgirl to ever run the 100 meters," head coach Bryan Berryhill said. "I'm just really proud of her and the progress she's made in the two years she's been at Wyoming." 

Charles tallied an easy victory in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.81, moving into a tie with Tom Garrison (1990) and Jason Medearis (1999) for the UW record in the event. 

"Jordan's been a consistent hurdler for us his whole career," Berryhill said. "This outdoor season, he's been even more consistent. It was neat for him to go out there and tie the record today, and hopefully he'll get that [record] in the near future."

The Cowboys' 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Jace Marx, Kevin Blackett, Charles and Sam Kirkeide has been moving up the UW all-time list throughout the 2017 season, posting their best performance to date on Thursday. The relay squad won the event with a time of 40.60 seconds, the No. 3 time in UW annals and just six hundredths of a second behind the Wyoming program record. 

"That's a great group of guys," said Berryhill of the relay squad. "They're excited to train together and race together every week. I've been really impressed with their consistency, not only in the 4x100, but in their training. They've been doing everything right."

The Cowgirls' 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Ja'la Henderson, Jordan Edmonds, Melina Harris and Davis also had a great day, taking runner-up honors with a time of 45.74 as Duke edged the Brown and Gold by just a hundredth of a second. Edmonds also accomplished a personal best in the women's 200 meters, clocking 24.61 to take fourth overall in the event. 

UW middle distance runners had a great day on the track as well, with Ricky Faure and Bryce Ailshie finishing 2-3 in the men's 800 meters while Kerry White and Cassidy Meade went 3-4 in the women's 800 meters. Faure clocked a season-best 1:49.37, while Ailshie had a career best 1:49.78. White and Meade posted season-best times of 2:10.71 and 2:10.91, respectively. 

Jonah Henry clocked a personal best time of 9:12.15 in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, winning the event.

The throws squad also had a solid day in Long Beach. Junior Damon Unland continued his brilliant season in the men's hammer throw, posting yet another personal best with a big toss of 198 feet even to take third place. On the women's side, Emelda Malm-Annan continued her consistent season with a solid mark of 192-2, finishing in seventh place. Garrett Lynch launched a new PR in the men's shot put, reaching 53-10.25. Freshman Hap Frketich was fifth in the men's javelin throw, tossing 183-3. 

Senior Scott Carter added to the Pokes' parade of personal bests in the men's triple jump, winning the event by over four feet with a mark of 52-3.75. Henderson was fourth in the women's long jump, leaping 19-3.5.

"Overall, it was a great meet for us," Berryhill said Thursday evening.  "We're out here in California and it's a bigger meet, and we saw our team everywhere cheering each other on. I think they did a good job feeding on good performance after good performance."

At the Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance, Calif., on Thursday night, Cowgirl senior Megan Brunette clocked a new personal best of 34:48.85 in the women's 10,000-meter run, finishing second out of 36 runners in her heat. The time ranks No. 3 on the UW all-time list for the event. Fellow senior Audra DeStefano will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Mt. SAC on Friday. The rest of the squad will travel from Long Beach to Logan, Utah to compete at the Mark Faldmo Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
