Biography

2019-20 (Junior):  Carl Underwood had the best season of his Wyoming golf career in the 2019-20 season.  He finished in the Top 25 of three tournaments and had his best career finish at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational where he tied for fourth place.  He also recorded at 13th-place finish at the University of Denver Ron Moore Intercollegiate and placed 20th at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite.  Underwood posted the lowest stroke average of his career (73.00).  In the CU Mark Simpson, Underwood fired a 205 (-11) for his best tournament score of his career.  His best individual round of the season was a career best 65 (-7) in his first round of the fall at the Gene Miranda Falcon.  At the Mark Simpson Invitational, Underwood shot two of his three rounds in the 60s -- a 66 (-6) and a 68 (-4) -- on way to his fourth-place showing.  Underwood was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) for this first time in his Wyoming career.  He was selected an Academic All-Mountain West honoree for the third consecutive season, and he earned MW Scholar-Athlete honors for the second straight season. 
 
2018-19 (Sophomore):  Underwood competed in 11 of 13 tournaments during his sophomore season.  He tied for 23rd in the Air Force Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational for his highest tournament finish of the year.  Underwood shot his best round of the season, a 68 (-4), in the second round of the Air Force Falcon Invitational.  His best tournament score of the season was a 213 (Even) at the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate to conclude the fall season.  He also posted a 29th-place finish at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in the spring season.  Underwood was honored as an Academic All-Mountain West selection for the second time in his career.  He also earned Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors for the first time in his college career.
 
2017-18 (Freshman):  Underwood appeared in seven of 12 tournaments for Wyoming in his freshman season.  He achieved his highest finish in the Wyoming Southern Dunes Invitational, tying for 29th with a 54-hole total of 223 (+7).  His low tournament total on the season was a 218 (+2) in the University of Colorado Mark Simpson Invitational where he tied for 43rd.  Underwood’s low individual round was a 69 (-3) in the first round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.  He posted a stroke average of 74.90 in 21 rounds played during his freshman season.  Underwood earned Mountain West Academic All-Conference honors for the first time in his college career.
 
High School: Underwood attended Richland High School in Richland, Wash., where he was a four-year letterwinner.  He won the 2016 Washington 4A Individual State Championship, guiding his team to a third-place finish.  A two-time district champion, Underwood was named the 2016 All-Area MVP during his junior season.  Additionally, he was a member of the title-winning Team Washington during the 2016 Junior America’s Cup.  In 2017, Underwood tied for fifth place at the State Championship.  He played for head coach John Richardson.
 
Personal: Underwood was born on Sept. 2, 1998 in Sheridan, Wyo., and is the son of Mary and Patrick.  His father is a former college football player. His sister, Bridgette, throws javelin at Eastern Washington University, while his uncle, Chris, won three national championships as a swimmer at the University of Texas.  Underwood is majoring in finance at UW.
