LARAMIE – Wyoming's
Kiley Reisner was named the Mountain West women's co-golfer of the week and co-freshman of the week on Thursday by the conference.
Reisner shares both honors with Grand Canyon's Alexis Vakasiuola after the two outstanding freshmen tied for fourth at the Cowgirl Classic at 9-under par. Reisner's 54-hole score of 207 sets a UW record for lowest event score, breaking the previous record of 209 set by teammate
Elle Higgins at the Wolverine Classic during the fall schedule.
Reisner is the first UW player to earn MW golfer of the week honors since Jessi Santesson in 2000. Former Cowgirl Juanita Rico was named the MW golfer of the month for March 2012.
"Kiley is so fun to coach, and she deserves the accolades for the work she puts in," UW head coach
Josey Stender said after Reisner led the team to a
ninth-place finish in the 20-team Cowgirl Classic. "She plays with such tenacity and a contagious passion. It has been rewarding watching her grow and accept feedback."
Reisner was the MW freshman of the week after winning the individual trophy at the Thunderbird Classic last month in St. George, Utah. She was also the MW freshman golfer of the month for September.
UW will next compete in the Bobcat Desert Classic hosted by Montana State April 13-15 in Goodyear, Ariz.
