MARICOPA, Ariz. (May 18, 2023) – The Cowboys golfers wrapped up the second round of action at the GOLFWEEK National Golf Invitational on Saturday carding three rounds under par at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. Wyoming is in fourth place with a two-round score of 565 (-11) after shooting a 283 (-5) on Saturday.
"If you look at the scores this is a great tournament with some great teams," UW head coach
Joe Jensen said. "We played hard and played really well overcoming some bad bounces during the round. The course was very getable today and a lot of good numbers came into the clubhouse. Give credit to Washington State and TCU for great rounds. We are going to go out there tomorrow and see if we can close the gap and make a run."
Jimmy Dales led the way for the Pokes with a 69 (-3) on Saturday. He is tied for 27th at 146 (+2) after two rounds. Panke and
Jaren Calkins turned in cards of 71 (-1) for the round and are tied for ninth place after two days at 140 (-4). Panke recorded one of golf's most impressive feats with an albatross on the third hole of the day. He carded his two with an incredible shot from 180 yards out with an eight iron.
Davis Seybert added an even par 72 on Saturday for a two-day score of 147 (+3), as he sits tied for 31st. Seybert was three-under on the back nine.
Patrick Azevedo is tied with Dales for 27th after a round of 77 (+5) on Saturday.
TCU leads the field at -20 for the two rounds. Washington State is right behind at -19 with Richmond at -13 followed by the Cowboys at -11. Anthony Delisanti of Valpo leads the field at -11 and was ten-under on Saturday.
The Cowboys wrap up the season on Sunday morning in contention for a postseason title.
