CORALVILLE, Iowa (12/30/24) – The University of Wyoming wrestling team wrapped up competition at the Soldier Salute Tournament on Monday inside Xtreme Arena. The Pokes boasted six placers, led by No. 19 Jared Hill (157) who took runner-up.

No. 32 Stockton O'Brien (133) and No. 21 Gabe Willochell (149) each placed fourth. Sloan Swan (157) and Cooper Voorhees (165) both finished fifth, while Ethan Ducca (174) took eighth.

Hill's journey to the title match Monday featured the team's biggest upset of the season. He knocked off Minnesota's No. 6 Tommy Askey in overtime in the semifinals. Hill came up just shy of the title, falling to Stanford's Danile Cardenas via decision in the championship bout.

O'Brien and Willochell also competed Monday night, however, both failed to log a win in their third-place matches. O'Brien fell by decision to South Dakota State's Logan Swensen and Willochell lost by technical fall to Northern Iowa's No. 16 Colin Realbuto.

All was not lost Monday evening, as Swan and Voorhees won their fifth-place matches. Swan did it via major decision over Northern Iowa's Cael Rahnavardi before Voorhees rallied for a decision victory over Navy's Dyland Elmore.

Ducca's tournament ended Monday afternoon in the seventh-place match. He dropped a major decision to Northern Iowa's Nick Fox.

A pair of Cowboys rallied for Silver Bracket – consolation bracket – titles. Warren Carr (157) and Sam Mitchell (HWT) did work on the backside of the competition to end on a high note, while Tucker Bowen (125), Josh Kyle (133), Aidan Noonan (141) and Riley Davis (174) all fell in the Silver Bracket championship.

Wyoming finished seventh as a team with 89.5 points. Iowa won the tournament, accumulating 248 points, while Northern Iowa and Minnesota rounded out the top three with scores of 126.5 and 125, respectively.

The Pokes take next weekend off before getting back after it at the NWCA National Dual Meet Championships. That competition stretches from Jan. 10-11 inside the UNI-Dome on the campus of Northern Iowa.
