LARAMIE, Wyoming (11/1/24) – The University of Wyoming men's golf team closes the book on its fall season this week. The Pokes will compete in the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in Lahaina, Maui.
The tournament is played at Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course from Saturday through Monday. It's a par 71 that stretches 6,700 yards.
It's a 21-team field with a pair of teams which reside in the top five nationally. Hawaii, Boise State, Colorado, Cal State Northridge, East Tennessee State, Georgia, Gonzaga, Indiana, Kansas, Liberty, Louisiana Tech, LSU, North Florida, Oklahoma, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Southern Illinois, TCU, UConn and UC Irvine make up the field. The Sooners and Tigers are ranked No. 2 and 5, respectively.
This is the fifth and final tournament of the fall for Wyoming. The Cowboys last competed at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite in early October where they fired a 835 (-29), which tied for the lowest score to par in program history.
Kristof Panke boasted his second top-10 finish of the 2024-25 season in Boulder, taking fourth.
Jaren Calkins also found himself in the top 10 at ninth, which was his third top 10 of the fall.
Patrick Azevedo also has a top-10 finish through four tournaments.
The Pokes have had a pair of golfers place in the top 10 at the Ka'anapali Classic in the last five years.
Jimmy Dales did so in 2021, and Kirby Coe-Kirkham accomplished that feat in 2019.
Wyoming took 16th at last year's tournament, shooting even par. The Cowboys have finished anywhere from 11th-16th the last five appearances at this tournament.
This will be the second consecutive year that the tournament will involve a fundraiser to help rebuild from the devastating fires of 2023. People are encouraged to give a one-time donation or pledge the amount of one's choice for every birdie and eagle their favorite team cards.
Following the trip to Hawaii, Wyoming takes a couple months off. The Pokes are back in action Feb. 2-4 at the Arizona N.I.T.
